Rather easy hike, on right day without mud you can walk in flip flops, tower view always the best part of the trail. Picnic table available for lunch, however no views until you climb tower. Still better day than staying home, could be warm up for next hike as this took 1 hour round trip with staying at tower for 20 minutes Drive on dirt road was needed more navigating than the trail

Very quick hike- 40 min of hiking + a few minutes to climb the firetower. Took longer to get to the trailhead than to do the hike. Really enjoyable and not at all difficult. Would be great for families or beginners. Outhouse at the trailhead was in very nice shape. Firetower was also in beautiful shape, as it is newly renovated. Beautiful views from the top. Completed as part of the ADK Firetower Challenge.

This is a shorter hike and a bit challenging for the inexperienced hiker. It’s a rewarding hike with a fantastic view from the top of the tower! There was a bit of mud in certain places today, 8/29/19, but overall a great afternoon hike.

A trail that has some trees roots and stones as you go up the mountain, gorgeous forest scenery all around, I believe we did this trip in 2 hrs., including the half an hour at the tour and to eat a sandwich. This was my first mountain hike I have done and it will be forever remembered as one of the best. I did this trail on a Sunday August 25, 2019.

a little muddy due to rain the previous day but manageable. no views until you get to the top of the fire tower but the views up there are amazing! We love heavily wooded trails so we enjoyed it. Good trail for the family.

Nice walk up and back. Re-conditioned fire tower was pretty nice with a helpful volunteer up top. The walk had some muddy areas but it was a beautiful day. Views are only available from the top of the tower but great from up there. Parking is terrible.

A portion of this is private property . Pay attention to the signs . It’s a short hike and I needed the fire tower . I liked it because it doesn’t seem overly traveled ( although I ran into about 12 people coming out )

Great trail. Nice walk through the woods. Amazing views from the fire tower. It really needs more parking.

Trail is beautifully maintained and was fairly quiet when we went. Easy hike for the kids, but not particularly engaging. No views from the summit unless you ascend the fire tower, and even then, the views aren’t as good as many of the other fire tower hikes. Quick and close enough to Bald (Rondaxe) that you can easily do both in less than 1/2 a day.

Trail was in great condition, despite storms earlier in the week. Firetower was absolutely beautiful with fantastic views. One item to note: google maps attempts to bring you here on a dirt/grass/mud road that ends well before (miles before) the trailhead- the route starting at North Road off rt 28 in Old Forge if you are starting south/west of the mountain. Take the longer route that heads north just before Eagle Bay (a bunch of roads with Moose in the title). These also are dirt for the last 8 miles, but wide and maintained. worth the trek to get there. We saw fresh Moose and bear tracks!

Hiked this today 08/02 in the early afternoon with my 10 yr old daughter. We really enjoyed it. Some horse flies buzzing around, but nothing too bad. Quick hike to the fire tower. No views from the summit, but the fire tower is in great shape and offers great panoramic views. Nice picnic table at the summit too. Great day for our 3rd mountain towards our fire tower challenge!

Nice to see people out hiking! The trail has its fair share of visitors. A little buggy at the trail head, and some muddy spots along the way to the tower. Great restoration job on the tower, amazing views. A wonderful short hike and not in the least bit difficult, the perfect hike to finally complete “ The Fire Tower Challenge”!

Trail was in very good shape, some muddy patches but besides that it was a breeze. Summit is forested so you will have to go up the tower to enjoy the view. Picnic table and bench at the base of the tower to help relax! Firetower is in stellar shape and whoever is caring for the tower and trail is doing awesome!!

Fairly easy hike since it's pretty short. The fire tower is in great shape and there's some cool stuff at the top such as a book with historical information, a topographic map, and a panoramic map you can use to identify landmarcs. Look above the map for a bag with the book, stickers for kids (or kids at heart), etc. It was clear out so we could see all the way to Mt Marcy and a few other high peaks. If you are driving from the south, Google Maps may try and drive you through some private property on North St in Old Forge. Do not go that way, instead drive to Eagle Bay and drive north from there to Big Moose and eventually to the trailhead. The trailhead is well marked and on the left after about 20-30 mins after Big Moose on an unpaved road (don't turn off!). The road was in pretty good shape on 7/7 when we went.

What a great trail! This was the easiest one I have been on and the drive up was just as fun. Whether you have young children with you or you aren't in the best shape this one can be done with ease. Great view from the top.

Went to Stillwater Fire tower for the Adirondack Fire Tower Challenge (winter). The road to the tower is a snow machine trail during the winter so the last 8 miles is an interesting drive. The parking area isn't ploughed so parked on the road. The trail was packed and made for good snow shoeing. The tower was very nice. A nice short hike but probably better in summer and fall due to the road getting there.

Great view from the top of the fire tower.

Great kid friendly hike. It was foggy at the top but we had the pleasure of meeting one of the volunteers who gave us a great history lesson. They’ve done a great job restoring the tower. Next year is it’s 100th anniversary.

Super easy hike. Well marked trails and doesn’t take much time to get to the summit. Views are only seen from the fire tower, though. The only tough thing is the seasonal roads to get there. Truck or an SUV works best!

Nice trail, marked well. Only real challenge is the dirt road that takes you there. SUV is more appropriate than a car!

Craig’s review excellent—nice hike-could see the wind turbines in the distance on Tug Hill plateau-mostly vast wilderness!
