Split Rock Falls Short Loop is a 1 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Tomkins Cove, New York that features a waterfall and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail.
There is a fee of $10 per vehicle. Fees are collected on weekdays between 6/22-9/2. For the rest of the year, fees are only collected on the weekend. Empire Passholders can get in for free. A great short loop with a beautiful waterfall. Quick initial elevation. Many intersecting trails to extend the hike if preferred. The unmarked trails are clearly visible and well traveled (see waypoints). Ample free roadside parking.
Beautiful spring hike. Z dragged his leash most of the way. Plenty of water for him in the streams. 68
the walk down the road to iona Preservation is not included in my recording. just walk to the end where the train tracks are and return same way. beautiful.
Not clearly marked so we ended up going the wrong way and it ended up being a bit confusing but we had a good time regardless! It was still beautiful at the top.
Pretty crowded. Second part of the loop more enjoyable. First portion partly paved. Nice waterfall halfway!
...is a little bit of a doosey but the way down is no issue. We took our own way and made it a loop. Overall a great workout and view!
Who doesn't like a waterfall? Well you get a few on this easy trail. We stopped here just for the hell of it with no expectations. The waters were rushing today and the falls were at their best. The trail is kinda marked but is very well groomed that you do not need trail markers. You can get right up to the water and some of the falls, it's a nice spot to relax, maybe have lunch or whatever. After crossing the bridge you can either go right on the loop to return to the road or go left to Doodles town. Not much to see there. I rate the trail as easy.
Very nice and short hike! People have written that there is a rock scramble but it’s really nothing, more like a rock step pathway. Parts of the trail tend to be rocky/pebbly lots of little rocks everywhere so watch your step. The waterfall was barely there and we went on 9/24 Thursday. But it was nice to see some water on a hike. Definitely easier if you go counterclockwise on the trail and it is harder to see the blue markings but if you have the map out it’s pretty easy to follow.
Hhmmm, there seems to be some confusion on this thread. This is indeed a trail, marked, and in Bear Mtn State Pk (actually about 1 mile south of Bear Mtn). Please follow my map, waypoints, and parking directions...a small portion, the first waypoint jctn off the blue path is not marked, but you can see and hear the falls!!
Good sun protection. I hiked right after a thunderstorm and had good footing throughout. Didn’t run into any other people. Saw some deer, woodpeckers, rabbits, and an oriole (I think?) -there’s a lot of trash along this trail -I missed a turn near the waterfall and accidentally ended up on another trail, but found the church, reservoir, etc, and enjoyed the accidental additions.
