This trail is all about the journey up, not the most open viewpoint, lots of different terrain not just rocks. Cool hike!

Got there on a Sunday around 9, plenty of parking. Saw a juvenile bear uphill while climbing and some paw marks on the trail. Got my outdoor “Hey bear” voice out after that lol. Beyond that the trail is fairly easy. I did hunter mountain the day before so this felt like a piece of cake. There are some rock scrambles but nothing tough. Theres no view at the summit. The look out just before the summit has ok views.

Great smooth and chill until spring. Gets tougher after the peak if going on to other trails and mountains.

Get there early if you are going on the weekend. Got there at 8:30 and it was almost full. By the time I got out, the cars were lines up and down the road. Very nice hike. Strenuous. Not impossible if you are in ok shape. Very rocky for the first 2 miles. The terrain changes during the last mile. Gives you a nice break. The view at the top is slightly obstructed by the trees. There is a great side view to the left about 2/10s of a mile before the summit. The hike up is gorgeous. Rocks, streams, trees, super quiet if your early. Really lovely. There is a lot of rock scrambling and elevation . It is not for the faint of heart, but doable.

What a beautiful hike! 6/7/20 We got started at 8am and there were no bugs and hardly any mud. The trail up the short way was a pretty steady incline but relatively easy. Felt super motivated at the top and decided to try adding in Cornell and Wittenberg. Going down Slide over to Cornell was much steeper than going up Slide from the parking lot, but it was only like 8/10 of a mile before it flattened out. Going up Cornell was fairly easy. There was a fantastic view on a giant boulder going up Cornell that had a great view of Slide. At Cornell peak we were pooped and decided to save Wittenberg for its own hike another time. By the time we were coming back down Slide to the parking lot it was around 1-2pm and it was starting to get buggy. No black flies, just little bugs. Great day great hike!

Nice hike! Be sure and go around the base of the summit to see a plaque for John Burroughs.

Very nice trail with a few nice views prior to reaching the summit. Few streams on the way up but the higher you get the less water there is. There might be a spring if you keep going past the summit. The bugs are out in full force so make sure you bring the big net and bug spray.

May 9 - SNOW. Hard to believe. Quick out and back through the grippy snow. Couple inches at the base, 4” at summit, but easily manageable. May pack down in the upper reaches of the trail overnight
