Great paved trail with occasional road crossings. Mostly through woods without road noise. Gentle up and downhill parts to make it less monotonous. You are able to bike or walk this trail. I would not recommend walking this alone in the evening as there are some areas that are probably not safe. The aviation building (Lawrence Aviation) is a bit historic, but it has gone on fire a few times over the years and has some "art" work. If you only want to walk one direction it is about 3 miles if you start at the trailhead on 25a in Setauket (this map starts at Gnarled Hollow) and end in Port Jeff Station. The Setauket trailhead is slightly west of the Wild by Nature shopping center and across from farm/flower stand. In the direction of Setauket to PJ there is a general elevation gain so it is slightly more difficult in that direction. Pleasant and clean trail appropriate for animals, children, adults, and cyclists.

Great for climbing with single speed and refreshing on the downhill. Totally worth the effort and leaving you feeling accomplished.

I liked that it was paved.. less concern for ticks

Great trail for jogging, whole trail is paved.

Great paved trail. Well maintained in February 2020. Pavement in great shape and lined for trail traffic. Minimal street crossings and equipped with electronic sensors directing traffic to yield. Went the whole way from Port Jeff Station into Setauket. A little hilly and curvy making for great scenery. I biked it out and back and it was a decent workout.

Good workout trail. Actually 6.6 miles out and back. Realized I wasn't recording on 1st half.

It’s a great and safe running trail in hilly PJ. Out and back is a little under 7 miles. There are a couple of street crossings but most cars stop once they see you waiting at the crosswalk. It is quite hilly, which adds to a great workout. It’s a very nice paved trail with plenty of tree coverage, which is beautiful in the fall. GPS signal is not perfect in the middle section (more trees coverage) but it’s fine. There is plenty of wildlife during the warmer months, especially deer, rabbits, turkeys and of course squirrels. It’s never super crowded but also you are never alone regardless of the time of day. The area in PJ is fine. As a female runner starting and finishing in the PJ area I have never felt unsafe, even when finishing a run at dawn or dusk.

A great trail, especially on the Setauket side. Since it is paved ticks are at a minimal, a small miracle on the northshore of Suffolk. It is typically quiet with families and locals. My dogs are big fans and I do not have to worry about any of us catching Lyme disease.

Love this trail because I can push the jogging stroller and get an amazing workout. It’s well maintained with some benches scattered along the way.

cool trail! out and back total is 5.2 miles. not sure why it starts with 3.75 miles if you begin in PJ. not much to look at but it's a good paved path.

Offers a better challenge if you run it. It is paved, but running up the hills (at least for myself) has proven to be a decent workout. Unfortunately, as others have noted, part of this trail is not in the best area but if you stay on the Setauket side, it’s very serene. Good for running, walking, and biking.

Not much to hike. An entirely paved trail. Good to kill some time, I guess. The eastern terminus of the trail isn't in the best neighborhood.

great path that is paved. crosses some roads but they are not busy and have crosswalks. only lost a star from me because one part you have to walk along one road and under an overpasswith little room to avoid cars. however it mostly secure and safe for walkersand bikers with handy distance markers.
