Trailhead located on Rte 28/30 between Indian Lake and Blue Mountain Lake in the Adirondacks. Summit is wooded but there are 2 lookouts on the way up and another 100 yards beyond the summit. Nice views.

Easy, family friendly hike. Did this with our 5 year old - he walked the whole time. The 2 year old did the beginning then hopped in the kid backpack. Nice view on top - top is actually kind of to the side...thought we’d missed it, backtracked and realized we were right after all.

This an easy, family-friendly walk.

Not a long or overly strenuous hike for a lovely view! Hiked this with my DH today and enjoyed the trail to ourselves. Took us about 50mins to reach the top. Loved how the clouds made the mountains look so blue and am looking forward to hiking this again as this would be an excellent leaf-peeping venture in the peak of Fall! ;-)

A beautiful fall view! Some tricky rock spots but there is a path to the side!

My boys and I did this on Aug 3rd, 2017 Got to the top and a thunderstorm rolled in. We got back on the trail and went down in the rain. it was peaceful. Like one of the rainstorm tracks that you listen to.

Sawyer mountain was a very easy hike for my family and I consisting of my wife and 10 and five-year-old children. Immediately at the trailhead there was a sign stating it is 1 mile to the top of the mountain, So based on this signage, this hike is 2 miles round-trip out and back. It is a very gradual easy hike up the mountain. The trail is completely covered in the woods the entire time. You're basically just climbing over small tree roots and when you get toward the top of the mountain there are some larger rocks that requires very minimal scrambling which my five-year-old had no trouble with whatsoever.

The summit can easily be reached within an hour when hiking with young children we took many breaks to look at all the wildlife such as toads, chipmunks and birds and also for the kids to climb some of the rocks that were along the side of the trail of various points. The summit, although it is not the true summit of the mountain, provides a decent view of local mountains but the field of view was very minimal and the summit is very small. If there were more than five or six people up there we would run out of room.

The hike back down was again very easy with very minimal grading and a very gradual descent.

Over all, a very easy hike with young children, a very small summit with a very limited view. If you're in the area you would be much better off taking chimney mountain which provides a much more entertaining summit in the larger summit with much better views.

Things to know:

The trailhead is right off the side of the main road, and will hold approximately 10 cars. There would be parking along the side of the shoulder if need be. We were here at 10 o'clock and a beautiful fall day and there were only two other cars. It does not appear to be a very busy mountain.

The trailhead is less than 5 miles outside of the town of Indian lake. Indian lake provides a couple of restaurants in a couple of gas stations if you wish to explore them.

Easy climb with an ok view. Definitely would be a good option for a beginner or a family with young kids.

Great short hike. Nice views at top. Good one for kids

Quite muddy due to recent rains but definitely a great choice with spectacular views to West. Terrain is on the more difficult side of "moderate" with roots and large sections of exposed rock. I recommend hiking this in the evening to get photos as the sun sets over the mountains.

the view was ok. it was definitely muddy, alot of black flies and mosquitos that wouldn't allow me to sit in peace for the view. left shortly after I arrived at the spot. bring bug spray.

Great little hike. The view at the top is from a rocky little overlook, with about 75 degrees of sight lines. As of June 12, the trail was still very muddy in several places.

It's late autumn and there was snow, so it was definitely rather cold and very windy. The trail itself is good for beginners (like us!), there were a few challenges that added a bit more fun to it but nothing too difficult. The summit is not that impressive, it's nice, but nothing incredible. The trail is very well marked and easy to spot. Overall, a decent hike and made for a nice outing.

good hike with the kids!

If you have never hiked a mountain before this would be a great place to start. It is roughly a 3 mile round trip. The trail is wide open and fairly easy. The view from the top is limited but what you can see is very nice. I gave this 5 stars because that is what my wife said to rate it. She enjoyed this hike because it wasn't a lot of work and there were many great photos to take.

Nice easy hike for the wife and kids. The view of ok. Nothing special. I'm sure it'd be ten times better in late fall or winter, after all the leaves are off the trees that block the view.

Gonna hit this up tomorrow as well as others. Can't wait.

Very quiet and underrated trail....way up is mysterious but the view was worth it! Not too hard although in Autumn it can be challenging to see the trail markers!

Good hike with some nice views just before and just past the top. Good for kids and dogs. Fairly short.
