Getting There

A short, but demanding hike up to one of the better views of the Fulton Chain Lakes. Rocky Mountain may be a short hike, but the view will keep you there for hours! Just minutes from downtown Inlet, NY. The summit of Rocky Mountain overlooks 4th Lake of the Fulton Chain Lakes as well as the hamlet of Eagle Bay. This is one of the best views of the lake, as the summit is on the western side of the lake.

Parking lot shared with Black Bear Mountain Trail head.

On Route 28, just south of downtown Inlet.

Great hike! Did this right after Black Bear to complete the Fulton Chain Trifecta. The top is by the far the best views we've seen, except Whiteface. Good family hike, definitely can bring a dog.

Awesome views once you get to the top. I was exhausted but that's bc I'm extremely lazy but I can't say it was too difficult for my first hike with a 7 year old. Nice and clear path. Nicely shaded and not buggy.

A nice, short hike. The trail is rocky with lots of roots. It is worn down and quite wide in some areas, so it is easy to follow. Great views at the top. It is steep in some areas, but it is short so you can take plenty of breaks and still make it to the top in a short amount of time. Young, adventurous dogs would do just fine.

Cute, quick trail. Views were beautiful at the top. We did this as part of the Fulton Chain Trifecta.

Fun trail, it’s a very uphill climb but it’s doable. The view is worth it

This was our first, so glad we did it! If you are not use to incline hikes, take your time. Lots of climbing but all worth it when you get to the top! A good short workout and good for beginners. Stay hydrated and healthy!

Pretty views and short hike to get there! Some roots and areas to be more mindful with footing. I did this today, 7/19/20 before Black Bear Mntn. I saw a man pass out and get injured which was scary, thankfully he ended up alright. Even though it’s a short trail, days like today when it’s hot and humid especially, make sure you have plenty of water.

Nice trail this was great. As of this writing I am a beginner with any hiking in the ADKs this was a nice trail for my family to start on to work our way up to higher peaks. Just be sure to sunscreen and stay hydrated.

Hiked on 7/4/20. Perfectly short hike with a nice roomy summit and great views of the area and lake below. Took half and hour round trip.

Great hike, so fast, a little steep especially if you’re out of shape but worth the view. Definitely one of my favorites

70’s and sunny. Mostly dry trail that’s uphill 2/3’s the way and then levels off. It wasn’t too bad. The first mountain my 4 yr old completed without be carried. Views of the lakes are spectacular. Nice, short, family hike.

had a friend recommend this hike, it took about 25 minutes to the top with young kids, beautiful views, easier then bald mountain. You can hear the traffic of the road but great hike all around!

Really nice trail, and very easy to find as it's located right on route 28. It was a little steeper than we realized but well worth the effort. We stayed at the summit for about 30 minutes enjoying the beautiful views of Fourth Lake. The breeze was very refreshing at the top. I would definitely do this one again and I highly recommend it for others. Maybe a bit too much for real little kids.

Short and steep with a gorgeous view! Well worth the trip. It’s also a great warm up for black bear which shares the parking lot.

The collection of filled plastic dog poop bags left at the trailhead was our introduction to the Rocky Mountain trail. Not sure who these people are, or why they think this is ok to do. I will never understand people that go out to enjoy nature and destroy it at the same time. This was a steep climb up but only 400+ elevation gain. Beautiful views at the top but no real overlooks along the way. Trails here are very eroded. Probably need to be shut down or re-routed for a bit.
