The Red Oak Trail is a pleasant but short community built and maintained trail that includes both wooded and riverside area, with a sidekick of swimming and barbecue during the summer months. The trail is relatively short and can be enjoyed during a long lunch hour from downtown Massena. Access from June through August should be through the main gate for Massena Beach. The small entry fee helps to ensure that the grounds and trail are properly maintained. For the rest of the year my preference is to park in the Dike Trial parking lot just past the beach. From there a short connecting trail takes you to the beach park just adjacent to the trail start. This trial is short and pleasant and offers some nice views of the river, and an assortment of deciduous trees common to this area... Which are wonderful to see in the fall.
