Description
Waypoints (4)

Follow the blue discs from the trail register; the trail is very well marked and easy to follow. The first mile or so is a fairly easy grade on a wide track, this eventually narrows down to a single track through the woods. At about 1.2 miles you start to ascend towards the first peak, this is a mostly moderate steady climb, but there are a couple of spots where it gets a little more strenuous. There are tree-obstructed views of Lake George from this peak, but nothing spectacular. Continue along the trail, heading down from the first peak, then (about 3 miles) up a grade to the second peak. This peak has a flat open area with great south-looking views of Lake George. From here is a steady descent down through the woods towards Pole Hill Pond. At about 6 miles the trail makes a sharp left into the woods to avoid private land, pay attention to the Posted signs and respect the landowners wishes. For the final leg of the hike take a right and follow the Yellow discs back out towards the trail register.

HikingGreat!Snow

I had the forest to myself, which was just fine. Snowshoes for 95% of the time. There were a couple of ups and downs that were safer for me with boots and spikes, so I changed quickly for those. The mountain top was calm and clear, and very enjoyable for a 10 minute break. This is a fun hike, that has a lot of variety, wide tracks, narrow tracks, some steeps, lovely views of Lk George at the top, a nice pond 3/4s of the way round the loop, and a cool waterfall near the end. Thoroughly enjoyable!

Hiking

Very nice hike, did it in January so winter conditions. Went counterclockwise and enjoyed it there was a little confusion at the very end where we ran into a border change and a merge with the yellow trail. But the overall hike was wonderful with tremendous views down the south end of Lake George from the top of the second peak. And a beautiful overlook on Pole Hill pond.

Beautiful nice hike. We used snow shoes the whole time. Took us about 3 hours total, with a 25 min lunch at the top. Beautiful view! A couple challenging spots, overall lovely and enjoyable! Defintely recommend.

Icy in places. Blue trail crossed a creek without a safe place to do so, which made me choose the yellow trail.

HikingGreat!Muddy

Well marked trail. I followed blue markers to the peak, which has very good view of lake George from Bolton towards lake George village. Continued trail loop around pond. Continuing past pond towards trail head the markers change to yellow for about one mile. Had 70 degree day early November , so good day , well marked and maintained trail and awesome weather to Enjoy !

Great workout and unexpectedly good view. You may want to save your snack to eat by the pond, if you take the blue trail up.

10/31/20 41 degrees & sunny. Happy Halloween Parking lot is very small. Holds maybe 5 vehicles. I went counterclockwise if you’re using the map on the AllTrails app, you won’t to follow the blue markers. The first 3/4 mile is pretty easy with some rolling hills, then is straight up to the top. The trail is marked well, some areas I had to stop and look further for the markers. It rained & snowed so the trail was very slippery. The leaves have covered all the rocks & large tree roots making hard to see what you’re stepping on. It was very muddy, you didn’t realize you were stepping in water until it was too late. Lots of large water areas you have to cross, you are able to do so skipping rocks, or walking around. It was a clear day, great view of Lake George. About 1-1.5 from the trailhead, it starts to level out, you think you’re in the clear. You will come to a bunch of “Private Property & Do Not Enter” signs also a fence. Turn around you’ve gone too far. The trail will take a sharp left before you get to the fence. Then...you start to climb again. You will follow a beauty creek for sale, the noise is very peaceful. There was 3 other vehicles when I started, I didn’t see a sole.

HikingBlowdownGreat!

The moderate steady climb after mile 1.2 is quite steep in some parts! You can skip leg day if you climb this one. The summit is lovely with a great view of the lake. We also enjoyed relaxing on the rocks beside the pond. The foliage was beautiful and trail was mostly soft.

HikingGreat!Rocky

This was a great hike. It takes about 2.5 miles to reach to the top and the lookout point, but basically, after that, you're almost done with going up. Part of the climbing up is steep but not dangerous, just tiring. Once you reach the top, the view of Lake George is nice (however not nearly as nice as the Tongue range peaks in comparison). After that, it takes less than a mile to reach to the pond. The pond is pretty, deep and my son and I swam in it for like 15 minutes even though the water had already turned quite a bit colder. Going back to the parking lot from the pond was easy, probably a little less than 2 miles. Saw no one the entire time we were there (Monday though), and when I left and signed my name out I saw only one name had signed in. The total trip was around 5.9 miles. Trail is well-marked. Great hike for dogs.

Counterclockwise is the way to go! Beautiful leaves around second weekend of October. It had just rained so we passed a small boggy pond before the bigger pond. Fairly low traffic even on a holiday weekend, especially if you start in the morning.
