This is an easy climb from Adirondack Loj to the top of Phelps at 4,160 feet. Although the summit is wooded there are spectacular views spanning from the Great Range all the way to Algonquin with the state high point, Mt. Marcy, framed in the center. You'll want to take some time at the top for photos. This is one of the easier climbs in the high peaks so feel free to bring family.

Did Phelps on 28th Dec. A quiet warm and sunny day, perfect for hiking. Phelps trail is pretty easy expect last mile that is icy. View on top is gorgeous. Microspikes are a must.

There's enough snow on the ground now that you're going to move fastest with spikes on your feet for the first bit and then snowshoes a little while after you pass Marcy Dam. There was lots of powder near the top, which was lots of fun. Views were incredible.

We had a great hike! Micro spikes were essential. Trail was hard packed snow and ice. A gorgeous view at the top. All the peaks (Macy, Colden, Algonquin, Iroquois) were totally frosted against a bright blue sky.

The trail was well packed and easy to follow, very moderate for a high peak. Only a couple of spots needed scrambling and I did not put on microspikes until descending. Few views until toward the summit, but the peak itself is very beautiful.

Hiked this peak yesterday, about 3 inches of snow at the summit. Very icy at times, definitely needed spikes. Took us 6 hours and 20 minutes due to the conditions.

Gorgeous trail, crowded summit, but great views. The fall colors were peak but we couldn’t really see much color from the summit. We rented a lean to at the loj and hiked from there, clocking just under 12 miles total. We took two 9 year olds for their first high peak. It was challenging but the kids did great. It was a perfect weekend
