River rapids, wildlife, steep cliffs, dog and kid friendly, wilderness close to home. Peebles Island is a nature-lover's treasure. The Perimeter Trail winds through open meadows, a hardwood forest, along cliff tops, and past river rapids in it's two-mile loop. White-tail deer, beaver, skunks, hawks, owls and water fowl can be spotted, especially in the early morning hours. Numerous trails criss-cross the island and are preferable during the summer months when the park receives a high volume of visitors. Fishing with a permit is allowed, and picnic tables are available along the route. Though located within eye-shot of nearby towns, the rapids at the southeast shore drown out the sound of traffic, and three nearby uninhabited islands offer wilderness views to the west. Thus protected, Peebles Island offers nature walks that are both diverse and serene.

This was a nice trail through the woods along the river. I took my 6 y/o daughter for a Daisy Girl Scout Scavenger Hunt along with my 10 month old (backpack) and husband. There's plenty of places to safely wonder off and explore and continue on. The volunteer staff was very friendly. Plenty of places to grab a picnic and rest. Not many hills and the trail is pretty clear. I would totally do this again.

This is an amazing little oasis for wildlife and hiking outside Troy , on the Hudson River. We saw two deer and many small furry friends like chipmunk and woodchuck. There are great spots on the cliff by the Hudson with a gorgeuous view. After your hike, find Muddaddy flats on 3rd street and refuel with quesadillas and ice cream

a little rocky and a few roots. But its nicely shaded by the trees in the summer and no pavement! Bald eagles, deer, herons and wildlife. And nice views of the river.

This was a nice, easy trail with lots of breeze and shadow from the trees. we were able to observe fish, turtles, birds, ducks and

Was weary of this place due to the location....(adk’s brat, here). This place was gorgeous! Saw so many deer and even baby deer! Could walk right up to them. Bald eagle spotted during trip. Trails are very well maintained! Tons of little in between paths and beautiful views. High recommend a day trip with the family here! Some steep slopes into the Mohawk though so keep an eye on your kids!!

Easily accessible with ample parking. Great place to bring leashed dogs, but fresh clean water is hard to access for them so BYO. Strong preference toward the perimeter trail for it's various water views. Inside trail is mostly woods and fields. Have spotted several deer there as well as some turkeys. A few picnic tables can be found on the outer trail. Can get busy on the weekends. A nice place for a walk in the morning or evening.

Beautiful family friendly trail we’ve been doing for decades! Counter clockwise Across from the first island look for a huge old tree with the dirt under it washed away just hanging on by its roots system. Across on the third island there is a nesting pair of bald eagles! Bring binoculars! At the southern tip their are nice rapids. About 2/3 the way up you’ll see an rusted out old car. Be very quiet at this point on and you’ll often see deer. ENJOY

easy hike with water views along most of the perimeter trail. My 11-year-old daughter loved the hike, especially the 2 bald eagles that we saw.

Excellent for a leisurely stroll, but can get pretty crowded. I'm rating this hike based on my "want to get away from it all" criteria. That said, the trail and adjoining Park offer clean and convenient facilities for a family day - picnic areas, restrooms, and fishing spots.

Great trail and easy to do just to get outside. If you’re bringing youngsters keep in mind the cliffs can be dangerous for wandering kids. BRING BUG SPRAY if you plan on stopping for a break.

One of my absolute favorite places. Beautiful scenery and trails with perfectly clear markers. Wide trails with lots of places to stop and look at animals or wonder. Great park!
