River rapids, wildlife, steep cliffs, dog and kid friendly, wilderness close to home. Peebles Island is a nature-lover's treasure. The Perimeter Trail winds through open meadows, a hardwood forest, along cliff tops, and past river rapids in it's two-mile loop. White-tail deer, beaver, skunks, hawks, owls and water fowl can be spotted, especially in the early morning hours. Numerous trails criss-cross the island and are preferable during the summer months when the park receives a high volume of visitors. Fishing with a permit is allowed, and picnic tables are available along the route. Though located within eye-shot of nearby towns, the rapids at the southeast shore drown out the sound of traffic, and three nearby uninhabited islands offer wilderness views to the west. Thus protected, Peebles Island offers nature walks that are both diverse and serene.

So gorgeous and very easy. Lots of different wildlife to get a glimpse of. We saw deer, birds, turtles, an eagle, chipmunks and MORE deer. Very peaceful and relaxing, sunny day walk in nature. Easy trails.

It's a nice park with unique views of the Hudson and Mohawk River. I was able to enter for free, but I guess it's $6 a car. I know it's state park rates but a bit steep for what is offered at Peebles.

Super easy hike with absolutely no difficulty at all. My 8 year old boys had fun but were not challenged.

Great views and awesome trails. Brought my dog with me and she enjoyed it as well as my parents and sister and her dog. A lot of people were here today but the trails weren't crowded and were easy to pass on.
