Owl Head Lookout offers great views after an ascent that is steep only for the last few yards. From the parking area you will begin following a dirt driveway for a short distance before dropping into the woods. From here you will have the pleasure of hiking though a very attractive mixed forest. The climb is easy for the first mile to a crossing of Slide Brook after which it is steady but never steep to a junction at 2.4 miles. Go left on a short, steep, 0.2 mile spur trail that you will need to use to access the summit. The summit has wide open views in almost all directions.

Very easy going teail until the last push to the peak fo Owl's Head Lookout. There may be 25-50 feet of scramble but easy enough.

Rain, flurries and a squall at the summit most likely kept others off the trail yesterday, but added to the beauty. The forest and the brook running through are majestic this time of year. The short scramble to the summit was easier than expected. Definitely a great hike for all ages. We’ll return to enjoy this one again. Warning, the parking area off 9N was not plowed and the driveway is steep. Some vehicles may have difficulty getting out with deeper snow/ ice.

This is a really solid trail if you’re looking for a relatively quick and easy hike with great views of the surrounding peaks. Good for kids, dogs, and those not up for a full day of hiking on one of the nearby peaks. Some of the reviews warn of a 0.2 mike stretch that is steep but it’s really not that bad.

Very beautiful easy walk. 360 views and plenty of space at the summit for shenanigans. Two hours if you’re pushing max. Easy enough for kids . Enjoy.

Completed Oct 14 2019 Most of the foliage along the trail is gone and there isn’t much of a view along the path. The summit has stunning (almost 360) views that make this short hike worth it.

Great half day trail to do when the main trails are busy. Easy hike to an incredible lookout for fall colours

We hiked this trail on 10/10/19 with our dog. The fall foliage was spectacular. We only saw a couple of people and the view was amazing. The hike was fairly easy and only the last 1/4 mile was steep.

One of my favorite spots in all of the high peaks. Never a crowd there and incredible view of Giant, Rocky Peak Ridge, etc. should keep going and hit high bank also. Just a cool little spot.

Easy hike to the 0.2 mi steeper and eroded approached to the summit. Great views! An easy hike with a big payoff. Highly recommended hike. Parking lot allows for ~12 cars.

I’ve driven by here multiple times to hike Baxter & Hurricane and today I decided to give this a try. What a stunning view at summit. I agree with other reviewers when they state they can’t understand why there are so few reviews. This is an amazing hike with spectacular views, especially for the effort put forth to get to the top.

Suprised there’s not many reviews on this trail! The views are phenomenal! The hike it’s self is fairly easy honestly most of the way. The last .4 mile is where it’s a steep incline to the top, sandyish so it can be slippery. All trails says it’s 4.9 miles, was almost 6 for us round trip. I took my 3 kids on this one and they survived easily! I’d say it’s dog friendly to! There a hole right before the wooden bridge to cool off in. The 360 view at the top makes this one a favorite for me!

Nice hike. Relatively easy. Great to have water along the way for some of it. Cool “dipping” pool about 30m in. Off road parking is reasonable size and offers some shaded parts.

I can’t believe there’s so few reviews for that trail. It’s awesome! The view is spectacular and it’s not that hard. Its a little bit steep for the last 30 minutes but almost all the trail is easy. It was hot when we went so there was lots of mosquitoes. Not much mud. Not a lot of people for a Saturday. I would say it’s kids and dogs friendly because I saw some. Its well marked, and there’s a beautiful fall you can refresh your feet in halfway up/down. Took us 1h45 to go up with breaks and about 1h down without break.
