On Your Back, Boundary Trail, Blue Mountain Summit Loop is a 6.3 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Cortlandt Manor, New York that features a lake and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from April until October. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
No many markers I hade to make my own trail specially because it was completely cover in snow But with the all trails app was very easy
We’re experienced hikers but this trail was not marked at all so we got off the trail frequently. Fortunately All Trails makes things very easy so we just went with the flow and made our own route. Very pleasant trail. Enjoyed the chill 2 hour walk.
I followed this trail loosely today. It was nice but the trails were not marked at all. I found myself completely off trail, on a different trail, several times. It was easy easy to get back on track with the all trails map. I had cell service the entire hike. It was strenuous enough, lots of rocks, several climbs and descents. Mostly covered forest with a stream and a pond. It was clean and politely shared with mountain bikers. Be prepared to pay a $10 parking fee! Moderately busy. I ran into about 12 people along the way.
Very easy and family friendly trail of 9 miles. However, seems actually meant to be an mountain bike track that is hardly marked. Cyclist we met were regardful, watch out anyway.
For fellow hikers with limited experience. Nice hike. Shaded by trees. Paths are mostly clear (except for some fallen trees from a recent storm; they’re easy to navigate around or over). The trail markers are scarce in a lot of places though. Not steep, but has some incline. Recommend hiking shoes over tennis shoes, as you are stepping on and over rocks, branches, etc. Went on a Saturday morning, Labor Day weekend. Not a lot of other people. Mostly mountain bikers, but not many of them either. Very quite and peaceful. You can hear the nearby shooting range in some areas though. For others coming up from NYC: train wasn’t too crowded. Wasn’t sure what to expect on a holiday weekend during a pandemic.
Very pretty trail, well-marked. There are a bunch of fallen trees from the hurricane but easy enough to get around them. Don't bother with the Blue Mountain lookout - nothing to see at all, barely even a clearing as the foliage is too dense. This recording is from Peekskill station to the trail and then to the brewery, for those who want to know exactly how long that takes :)
Only did half the trail because of rat snakes out basking in the sun. $10 fee to get in.
Just know you pay a $10 parking fee at the gate—$5 if you have a county park pass. Hike was great! The route highlighted goes through some bike trails which is kind of annoying, because they’re quite narrow and pretty heavily trafficked. Overall, it’s a great time though—I’d just follow a route away from the bike trails, but I don’t know how to differentiate that on this app.
This is a great trail for a moderate rating. The path is fairly clear and there are trail markers. Most will not break a sweat hiking this trail but it has some moderate elevations that will get your heart rate up. The terrain is varied with something for everyone: streams and ponds, hills and dips, rocky and grassy patches. This trail is used a lot by mountainbikers.
This particular map doesn't show you how to get to Mt. Spitzenberg (better vista than Blue Mountain). Also goes on MTB trails a fair bit. Had to cut corners and find ways up to both summits. Trail markers are in a pretty bad condition, bring a map or an app.
Solid, easygoing hiking all around the blue mountain reserve. Note - my recording includes walking to/from the metronorth station.
Great Trail for basic hiking. Frequented by mountain bikers. It's a great Trail for that. This has to be the worst marked trail I've ever been on. Make sure you have a map. Preferably the All Trails app so you can follow via g.p.s. The path is well beaten but you can be led astray by perceived side paths. Try to park in the surrounding neighborhoods to avoid the $10 fee for car entry to the park. See where I parked by looking at my recording.
A word on the Blue Mt trails in Peekskill. There are a mix of double track and singletrack trails throughout. Generally the doubletrack are more suited to hiking, hikers can walk side by side and the trails are more direct. The singletrack were made for mountain biking and are narrow and wind around to some degree. The Alltrails map does not show the difference. Those seeking to explore there I would recommend getting the Westchester parks map from their website: https://parks.westchestergov.com/images/stories/pdfs/BlueMtn_map_2015.pdf Also the Blue Mt summit view is not very good. Somewhat better is the view from Mt Spitzenberg to the south.
