Super fun trail with gorgeous views. We saw a few kids with parents on the trail but I don’t think I would call it kid friendly if you choose to go down the stairs into the gorge. We packed a small lunch and made it to a nice flat rock in the water to eat on. It did involve some boulder jumping but definitely worth it! Not super crowed today but the people that we did pass were very considerate about masking/social distancing. The stairs back up are killer but definitely doable and room in spots for breaks!

Tons of stairs, but that’s not the horrible part. Took my nine year old, it was so rocky we couldn’t even get through it to see the whirlpool. He got so frustrated and started crying. Literally not a path to bring kids on. Horribly labeled. No signs. Couldn’t even find where the whirlpool was before we had to head back.

We parked at whirlpool state park overlook walked through the pavilion and headed left. There is a staircase of nearly 500 stone stairs starting the beautiful descent into the gorge also to the left. It was incredible. You can then go to the left to walk to Devils hole which is currently closed so you’ll have to double back- taking you to the right of the path now until you reach some boulders. If you’re brave and adventurous enough to climb the boulders, you’ll see that the trail will bring you to beautiful flat rocks on the river bed. It was stunning and so worth the hike and the extreme workout. We hope to hike it again before I have to leave out. By far the best trail yet since I’ve been in western NY. Gorgeous. Wear comfy shoes and bring water.

Nice trail down to the river with great views of the rapids. Found a nice outcropping of rock to hang out and put our feet in the water. Crowded though in the afternoon with lots of people that didn’t have the right shoes for the rocks. Steps back up get your heart pumping but overall easy trail.

Fun, easy trail. Nice way to spend half the day and see a some the most powerful rapids in the world. Lots of up at the end, so keep that in mind if you’re worried about fitness.

A beautiful and strenuous hike with an amazing view! We parked by Devils Hole and hiked to the Whirlpool first, then turned around hit the cave before returning back up the stairs. FYI Devils Hole stairs are CLOSED for construction currently. You will have to use the other set of stairs for the whirlpool. Take lots of water ( I used my filter at the whirlpool and refilled my bottle!). Trail was pretty busy on the weekend, and rangers were there checking for face masks and making people stay on the trail!

Trail itself is beautiful and fairly easy; the stairs are well maintained but still definitely the hardest part of the trip. I'd recommend to anyone, even beginners!

Gorgeous trail once you get down the stairs to the gorge. Beautiful views of the water. Lots of different trails and paths to take once you are in the gorge.

A pretty cool trail that gives you a little bit of everything in a short time. Don’t be careless near the waters edge! Fun to trail run or to take your time. Usually pretty busy on a sunny weekend but I don’t usually have trouble finding parking

Great hike! We enjoyed it immensely. Lots of wildlife along the trail and surrounding woodlands. Be alert for snakes. Roots and rocks abound. Watch where you walk and bring trekking poles. The steps are tough for short people like me and the trekking poles are an invaluable asset on any trail!

The signs say “easy” but AllTrails rates it moderate. If you are not experienced and in good condition, this is definitely “moderate”. Very cool hike took me about 2.5 hours round trip.

The water levels rose quite a bit so the trail along the river was sometimes underwater but beautiful none-the-less with easy detours. Great lookout points to watch the boats on the rapids. Variety of birds to check out while hiking through.

some of my favourite trails to hike are all at the gorge, although I wouldnt say it is all "easy". probably more moderate skill level, different parts of some trails include climbing over bigger rocks to continue depending on the time of year you go. (dependent on water levels and weather, mud, etc) beautiful scenery, recommend to all hiking enthusiasts!
