Mt. Arab is a short 0.7 mile scenic hike in the Adirondacks on a nice moderate trail. There is also a fire tower at the top that provides excellent views. Mt Arab has been a very popular and accessible hiking destination for generations because of the spectacular views from the fire tower. You can view Tupper Lake and Mount Morris to the southeast, the Adirondack High Peaks to the east, The Raquette River valley to the north, Horseshoe Lake Wild Forest to the southwest, and Mt Arab Lake and Eagle Crag Lake to the west. Nice easy 2mile RT hike that is great for the kids.

Easy trail. Nice view. Friendly Stewart at the top. Hiked with a four year old, that had no problem with the hike. No mud or bugs

Overall great views from the fire tower and benches along the summit. Trail splits towards the top but either path will get you to the summit and fire tower. Steward at the the summit was informative and a nice little history lesson about the fire towers.

This was my third season hiking this trail and it never gets old. The trail was busy with fellow hikers and the cabin was open for a tour of it. The steward was very friendly towards people and I enjoyed my conversation with him. The trail had a little mud in sections and towards the top it was a little overgrown but otherwise a very enjoyable hike.

Loved the benches n the views from them. Perfect place to relax! Hit this after Cascade n Porter this morning; definitely one that can be done as a second hike of the day.

Great hike for families- some stairs at the harder sections, outstanding views and picnic spots at the top. Today there was a very friendly and helpful volunteer "Friend of Mt Arab" explaining and educating at the top. Very enjoyable!

Not too hard - some steep sections, and a steady climb, but also lots of areas that level out if you’d like to catch your breath. The view is phenomenal, even if you only go partway up the tower, and the cabin at the top offers a shady spot to eat (although the bench on the overlook just behind the cabin is certainly a more scenic lunch spot). Of note, the cabin was closed up when we went (Thursday), so may only be staffed/open on the weekend. The trail is well-maintained - planks and ladders erected over the tough spots - but it’s clearly very busy. We went mid-day on a weekday - not peak hiking time - and the parking lot was full, and we probably ran into 15 groups during a relatively short hike (about 40 minutes to summit with slow 6 year old). If you’re a hiker who prefers solitude, probably not the best option.

Nice, easy hike. No crazy rocks or roots to deal with. Gorgeous views at the summit with a relaxing Adirondack bench as a reward for your effort. A must hike. Beautiful views from the firetower, but not necessary to gain the beauty the summit has to offer.

I would rate this as an easy hike instead of intermediate. Trail is very easy to follow. As you get to the top there are two routes you can take. The left adds a slight moment of challenge but still pretty simple. The right has a look out point with a bench to sit that is nice. The fire tower at the top offers a beautiful 360 view (you wont have a view from the top unless you climb the tower or go to the look out point). The mini museum at the top has some interesting facts and little nature magazines for kids.

It was really muddy, but it’s been a wet year so it’s probably usually dryer. The trailhead was easy to find and has a nice parking spot. The trail itself is pretty rocky, and there’s a lot of spots where you either have to go around the trail or climb over a bunch of rocks. I love that kind of trail, but it would probably be difficult for people with young children or balance issues. It was a workout, but the views made the climb totally worth it. The views off the summit were gorgeous, and there was plenty of spots to sit around the summit so even though there were a few other parties up there, it didn’t feel crowded. The trail’s relatively narrow in spots, so there were a few times when myself or another party would have to move aside to pass each other. Overall, it was a great hike and I’d definitely do it again.

Hiked this today with my husband as part of the Tupper Lake Triad. Beautiful short wooded hike, saw pink ladies slippers on the trail! Windy day kept the bugs at bay! (Plus, we used bug spray!) Beautiful views from the top.

Very steep!!! Basically climbing straight up the whole time but it’s worth it. Great views from the summit and on top of the fire tower. Wish we could’ve stayed up there longer but it was extremely buggy. About a 90 minute round trip hike at a slow to moderate pace.

Well kept trail. Trail splits at about .9, trail to the right is just a switchback, but has an alternate trail toward the summit. Staying straight looks like a scramble but it actually makes a cut to the left, and isnt bad at all.

It’s not as muddy as you’d expect right now. There are a few spots that are a little wet but it’s easy to get around them. Great views!

Beautiful views! Nice 1 mile hike. Trail a bit muddy in spots but n that's expected in spring.

Nice 90 min hike (including a little rest at the top to enjoy the view at the top of the tower). The path was somewhat muddy which it is expected at this time of the year. Have the right gear and enjoy!

Great hike for when you only have a couple hours to burn. The view from the fire tower is comparable to that of the many other longer hikes in the Adirondacks. Stunning.

*editing to add that this was my favorite of the triad!! Recommend doing it last!* Beautiful views from the fire tower. Snow is packed nicely on the trail right now so no need for snowshoes or spikes (March 2019) but watch out for those sneaky areas of quick-snow! I ended up knee deep more than a handful of times. Brought lots of laughs to our hike. Up and back took about an hour. Can’t wait to do it again in summer!
