There is a large parking lot here with a trail that passes through the draw between Morton Mountain on the west and an unnamed mountain on the east.  Buttermilk Brook flows througn the draw and is a beautiful brook with long waterslides and falls.  Several designated campsites exist. Turn west and bushwhack up Morton.  Very easy climb with open hardwoods.

This is a great alternate route to the bear slides. The trail from the parking lot to the bear slides is an old road and very easy (it would even be drivable if there weren’t a gate). However, the trail from the top of the bear slides to Morton mountain is NOT A TRAIL. It is an UNMARKED BUSHWACK. Please make sure you are at least familiar with this area or have a map. If you are going to use the AllTrails app, then make sure you have downloaded this section to your phone, since there is NO CELL SERVICE. There is really no view from Morton Mt. The bushwack down the mountain to the river road was steep in some sections.

Nice hike. Beautiful stream. Not to strenuous, but it wasn't really well marked. We got off of the trail but ended up on a road that took us to the river road which ended up being 5 miles. Very pretty.
