Fine hike, best utilized as a light hike to spend the day/ night at Mongaup pond IMHO. Mongaup pond is lovely, there are a few nice grassy areas at the north end of the lake that are great spots to enjoy the day. The forest is second growth, don’t expect huge trees. Thick fern forest and many streams make for a nice hike. No viewpoints along the loop and no views from sand pond mountain or willowemoc either. Trail is mix of wide snowmobile path and light trail. The trail portions are very light in places and some may find it difficult to follow. Beginning of the hike is a bit sketchy, have to either bushwhack up a steep embankment or pass a gate on private property.
