Great hike! Single lane trail with lots of snow. Micro spikes or snowshoes recommended on this particular trail.
Had a great hike today. Started with the Awosting falls trail, Then did part of the yellow marker Mossy something or other trail which went through the woods and was quite vigorous. The beginning of the Mossy Trail wasn’t all that interesting, but then it really became beautiful. It could definitely be an angle turner with tons of roots everywhere. Then switched over to the blueberry something or other blue trail and carriage road to come back to the parking lot. Beautiful day, beautiful hike. The water was a lot lower than years ago when I was there. Tons of people, particularly later in the day.
We arrived at 10:30am Sunday, Mother’s Day and the parking lots had just filled up. However, the rangers who are very organized and efficient, monitor the parking carefully predicted a 20 minute wait—which was accurate. Also, no user fees are being collected. We were not able to choose our parking lot so we changed our trail plans to work with the lot we were given. No bugs, no ticks, a little mud, a few wet slippery rocks but very few other hikers on the mossy glen trail. I loved when the trail opened out on the rocks and tumbling water ways. A few lovely hand made bridges graced the trail. The carriage trail back was a bit plain but it was a good first hike of the season. Not crowded which was a plus.
It was really fun. It is a bit off trail and the path is narrow, but it’s worth it! If you go off trail a bit at the beginning, there’s a nice river. Just follow the sound of it. The only bad thing was there was bugs and it was overgrown.
