Beautiful glacier lake. The trail is a wide carriage path for a large section of the way. The climb from the creek to the overlook at the top can be slippery- lots of moss and wet stones. The view from the top is stunning. I added in Gertrude’s Nose Trail to make this a 8-8.5 mile hike.

Lovely trail with some solid views. It will be crowded on weekends, so go early. It’s all gravel carriage roads with the exception of the portion from Milbrook Mountain back to Lake Minnewaska. This section is a rocky footpath that descends to the Coxing Kill river (be careful this section is WET and slippery) and then increases in elevation to reach the lake.

very nice place

Nice hike with beautiful views. Part of hike (a little Over 3 miles) is a gravel carriage path. The rest is a moderate hike. A few really nice rocky outcropping s to sit and enjoy the view. End at the lake so you can cool off if you have your bathing suit. Go early in the day during busy season. When the trail head parking area fills you have to park 1 mile downhill. Adds 2 miles round trip Also 10.00 parking fee to get into the park

I did a portion of this trail and decided to add a few others trails. This is a beautiful trail with various terrain.

Not too difficult, great view, trail was well marked.

Really well marked trail that connects to many others. Be sure to park at the upper level lot. I started the trail by taking a right after leaving the parking lot. The first half is easy carriage roads followed by a moderate level foot path for the second half.

I took my 6 and 7 year old . A bit much for them. Easy hike but long for the kids. Make sure to park at upper lot or you will add 2 miles onto your trip.

This is a beautiful hike! Not strenuous, but still a great little workout. The trail scenery is mostly trees, but the top of the mountain is a great view!

Just hiked this trail today with my sister. We walked at a more leisurely pace and weren't looking to break any records. I'd don't it once before with my wife. Great views, decent workout.

Great views from the cliffs but the rest is mostly trees. I went in the fall so I think this helped. Pretty colors everywhere but it gets cold at the top. Especially if it's windy.

Excellent hike but not difficult wonderful views
Very well marking the way :)

hiked about a mile of this trail from Millbrook Mtn back up to Lake Minnewaska - part of the Gertrude's Nose Loop - surprisingly steep back up to the lake.

Great views.

nice hike, mostly going through the mountain. it's surrounded by trees about 97% of the way, so it's probably beautiful during the fall. otherwise not much to see. there's only 2 or 3 overlooks. it's all carriage roads if you take it from the minnewaska lake trail head. it's relatively easy, even for someone as out of shape as I am.

This was a an amazing hike. All different terrain made it seem to go by quick. Steep ascents to rolling ups and downs. Loved the views from several different points along the way.

I took the Minnewaska Loop to a leg of this trail and the only thing preventing me from giving it five stars was the unbearable heat! There is some moderate to strenuous climbing but the terrain was incredible and lots of fresh blueberries to pick! Great views the whole way (trekked about 2 miles of the trail before turning back). Excellent views of the Hudson Valley and the Catskills in the distance. The light was hitting everything in the most picturesque way. We didn't see anyone else along the trail so I imagine it's not that heavily trafficked! If you are looking for a healthy hike, look below at my recorded path. This combined with the Minnewaska Loop was a perfect hike with great variety of views and a good swim to cool off at Lake Minnewaska!

Views are amazing

Monday, September 21, 2015

The views were worth the climb. We took the Millbrook Mountain Trail at the of Lake Minnewaska and the carriage road back down. For a novice hiker it was a very hard trail for me but once at the top I didn't want to leave. Bring a camera and water...lots of it.

Great hike today despite the new snow yesterday. The rangers did a good job keeping the trails packed and marked. Did not make it out to Gerrudes Nose - had the wrong gear, needed snow shoes. Did make it to Millbrook Mt and back to Awosting Falls.

Was a beautiful hike! We went in late September, weather was perfect! Not difficult at all - fun family hike.

There are several trails on Millbrook Mountain which is in Minnewaska State Park Preserve. There is an $8 per vehicle daily fee to enter the park. further information can be obtained on their website:

I have hiked and skiied the Hamilton Point Trail or the Castle Point Trail and and return by way of the Upper Awosting Trail loop several times, the latest being August 24, 2010. The trails begin and end at the Lake Minnewaska Parking Lot. A map can be obtained on the website or at the park. The hike is about 7-1/2 miles and follows old carriage trails for most of the way.
