Clark Reservation State Park is a geologic wonder of the last ice age and a botanist's paradise. The park's natural features include rugged cliffs and rocky outcrops, woodland and meadow, a wetland and a glacial plunge basin lake in which the surface waters and bottom waters do not mix. Fishermen can catch pickerel, bullheads and sunfish; while birdwatchers may observe cedar waxwings, kingfishers and woodpeckers. The Nature Center is open seasonally from mid-May through Labor Day. Guided nature walks leave from the Nature Center building, which also offers numerous exhibits. Hikers may choose from five trails, including the cliff trail, which has a ledge overlook 175 feet above the water.

Very busy lots of foot traffic. Beautiful day and bugs were down. Lake trail is a little mucky in places. Mosquitoes could be bad without repellent. Great hike!

Nice hike, just watch out for cracks in the rocks under the snow. Kids payed on the cool (nature themed playground before and after hike)

It was a nice fall hike. The stairs on the lake trail got the heart pumping but other than that it was easy. My dog loved it.

HikingGreat!

There were a lot of trails. The rock formations are awesome. Definitely dangerous in snow and ice. We really enjoyed this cool park. Not a strenuous walk but still challenging with the uneven rocks.

We like this trail, but we couldn’t finish the whole loop due to weather conditions. Moderate rocky makes it fun for hiking. We will be back in better weather!

HikingGreat!Rocky

Fantastic trails. Spent 20 years of my life in central NY and I had no clue we had any rocky trails like this one. I very much enjoyed the bit of bouldering and hopping around on rocks. This trail was super cool since it was pretty obvious it was a river at some time in the past. Very cool hiking trail. It was about 70 and I took a jacket because the trail was mostly shaded. I regretted the jacket. There’s plenty of rocks to climb around that I definitely didn’t need the jacket after a few minutes

The trail ha s a little bit of everything. Much of it was easy wide flat trail but some spots were rocky and steep, other spots had a tree down over the trail and it was muddy near the end. There was also a very big set of stairs at the end. I would rate it moderate not easy.

Mike here and this is my review of the Mifred Fraust, Cliff, Lake and Pulpit Rock Trails. The trails are in good condition except the Lake Trail. Very muddy and just not a good walking trail. The scenery on Lake Trail is not worth it. The stairs down to the lake are cool and are a great piece of work. The other trails are simply a nice walk in the woods. There are areas of unusual rock formations. No wow or awesome views or scenery. I would not go back.

Did this in April 2020 but chose for the Long Trail instead of Big Buck Trail. Went with a four year old and we both had a blast! The park was packed but was the first nice Saturday during COVID so understandable. Very cool rocks on the Cliff Trail and rocks to climb over on part of the Long Trail which goes to Cliff Trail. The steps at the end going to the parking lot wiped us out after a day of adventure (we just started exploring trails in 2020). Will definitely return in the future to explore more of the area.

Not an ideal place for small children to hike. Came here on a suggestion with my 15,10,&4 year old. We did the cliff trail to the lake trail and it was really rocky and we had to scramble a lot. Waking parallel to the incline on the lake trail back was just as tough with a 4 year old in tow. Wouldn’t recommend for anyone under the age of 10. Otherwise, it would’ve probably been fun.

Great trail, very beautiful and the lake trail down the stairs is not heavily trafficked. Trail is narrow and hard to social distance and the perimeter trail is maintained enough but can get muddy and tricky in parts. The stairs are probably the most difficult for people who struggle with climbing up and down, not handicap accessible. Still a beautiful little lake with lots of water fowl and a cool wetland.
