The trail was fun, but not entirely open. The entrance was well marked and easy to understand. The trail was very pretty, but felt like it was leading up to bigger grander sights. However half way through the loop is closed off significantly shortening the length of the trail. The trail is extremely well marked at the beginning, but he further it progresses the worse the trail is marked. Overall a fun experience that's sadly cut short early of the best sights.

It's too bad that the gorge trail is partly closed. It's a great view from the high point, you can even see Long Island Sound. Before the water company closed access to the reservoir land you could hike from the gorge all the way to the dam. The dam was a great spot to picnic, fish, hike, etc. My golden retriever and I hiked there a lot, even circumventing the entire reservoir a few times. We also crossed the frozen reservoir and back one winter. Not a good idea by ourselves but we made it. When they were looking for president Bargh of the water company, my mother noticed tire tracks going into the water and an oil slick. I told some workers. Bargh had committed suicide by driving into the water. He was found in 90 feet of water. In the late 60's or so some vandals destroyed the picnic area and shot it up. The company closed all access after that. Very unfortunate for the people who enjoyed the site. Trail head vandalism is not uncommon. I have seen it in Colorado and Washington State where I live now. Hopefully access to the full trail system will be restored.

Dissapointed that it’s not all accessible, but was awesome for a first trail walk. Went early on a weekday and didn’t walk by a single soul. Very nice trail.

Very family friendly. Used this to get the kids interested in hiking. Gurgling river and the occasional waterfall make it interesting

What a wonderful place!! Place here everyday on my commute and decided to stop and explore today. The Mianus River Gorge is unlike anything in the area...old growth forest with hemlocks that are over 300 years old. The preserve was created in late 1953 by local citizens who saw the uniqueness of of the area and wanted to save it for future generations to enjoy. This was also the first land acquisition by the Nature Conservancy and also the first US National Natural History Landmark!! The trails are clearly marked and great for families. The Preserve closes at 5...I wasn't aware of this until a fellow hiker let me know. Highly recommend this hike

It is an easy trail that is great for most kids (probably 5 and up), just need to be careful on the ledge of the gorge if taking the red trail. Has bathrooms in the parking lot. Mosquitoes can be rough around the area described as an amphibian breeding ground (makes sense since they eat them), just try to walk fast through there or spray yourself before. Saw a tiny snake but not much other wildlife.
