$8 to enter campground where trail is. You can hike from Big Pond but it will be a much longer hike! This hike was the perfect length for exercise and variety! Very steep going up, do not suggest going after a rain. But nice work out! I loved all the sights: meadows, beaver dam, forest. No mountain peak. The trail is not well maintained in summer as there was a lot of vegetation and some thorns. Wear pants. Wish my $8 could have gone towards maintenance of trail. Bring machete if you want to be Indiana Jones! This was definitely a challenge and would not recommend for beginners or children. There is a swimming area and the campgrounds were really nice, much more family friendly. Perhaps the adventurers can take the hike while the fam is hanging out on the water!
Nice day hike. Bring a whistle. Saw a mama bear with 3 Cubs right in the trail.
Started on the loop, got to the top and decided to hike out to big pond, nice hike, but a little slick.
My buddy and I ran this trail thinking it was a rolling jaunt around the pond. It turned out to be a serious uphill followed by a beautiful rolling downhill back to the pond. There were multiple ecosystems: alpine meadow, pine forest, deciduous/mixed.
