We loved this hike. It was a solid climb to the top but the lake is a great place to take a lunch break. There were lots of great vistas at the top and on the way back down. It also wasn't very busy.

Excellent trail. Switch backs are gradual up / down. Less than 4 hours with a nice break for lunch on the lake.

HikingGreat!

Loved this hike. It was mostly uphill for the first half but the trail was easy walking so it was manageable. Took us 2 hours up and 1.5 hours down... hiking with a toddler in a backpack and I’m 6 mos pregnant. Highly recommend to enjoy Minnewaska but skip the crowds. Quiet even on a peak Sunday.

HikingGreat!

I led a group up in this reserve on Thursday. There is space for 10-12 cars in the parking lot. There is no sign. Just follow the GPS directions. The trail is an easy wide gravel and dirt road. Occasionally there are purple diamond markers for the loop, but no signs. What really helped in this case was the Gaia app to find our way up to Lake Awosting via the Wolfjaw Connecter to the Castle Point Carriageway and back via Spruce Glen and the Shawangunk Ridge Trail (Scenic Trail). Someone‘s placement of rocks and cairns also helped guide the way. Lake Awosting was beautiful, especially with an abundance of fragrant sweet pepperbushes by it.

Great trail. A little boring at the beginning but it’s beautiful at the top before you hit the lake.

It was a super nice hike some spots were alittle over grown and like deer trails however not to much to complain about. Overall it ended up being just over 16 Miles, following the trail.

Wow! This was great trail but definitely be prepared for the first half being almost all straight elevation. I did pretty well for a bit in the easiest gear but had to walk a good amount too. It was 93o day but that’s no excuse. I wanted to bike to the lake but I was spent at the half point of the loop and opted to let gravity guide my decent. Really make sure you have your brakes well adjusted. You definitely will need them for the momentum you will generate heading down. I enjoyed it will try it again when my stamina is even stronger. Cheers!

I had limited time and am not in the best of shape I guess, so I didn’t see the lake! /cry I’ll be back, like others have mentioned, it’s all uphill and lightly travelled for now. Really a great workout and if lived nearby I’d do it often for the workout!

Great trail for an afternoon calorie burn! Steady incline all the way up to the lake, can at times be steep but balances out with straight paths. Beautiful lake. There are life guards and a sectioned off area if you care to take a swim! All down hill on the hike back.

Great trail, lightly trafficked. When you reach halfway point at the lake, it’s a good spot to sit and enjoy the view, have lunch then head back. Highly recommend !

Beautiful lake makes the trail well worth it. Highly recommend taking black trail once you get to the lake. Do not just arrive at lake and turn around. It is a 3.5 mile loop around lake and has incredible views. Considering the walk up to the lake lacked scenery. The loop around the lake made up for it all.

Great hike. It was not a hard hike if you in good shape. Took me over 2 hours to go up to the lake and about 1.5 hours to come down back to where I parked car. Not crowded at all as most people go to main parking at Minewaska . I recommend to get early as parking is limited.

Nice and wide path for most part of the trail, easy to maintain social distancing while crossing other hikers. The lake view at the top is absolutely beautiful and peaceful. The bottom 2/3 of the trail is very buggy, a lot of small black flies

Beautiful hike, gorgeous lake at the end. I’d say a bit harder than moderate, not a technical hike, but super worth it.
