My son and I completed the hike, but there were no marked trails at any point. The first half of the hike were a mix of roads and dirt paths that skirted land protected by the DEP. You couldn't reach the lake because it was all marked "No Trespassing". The second half was flat-out dangerous, because you had to walk along Route 22. This is a road with almost no shoulder, where it's marked 50 MPH but people drive 65. It's notable to say you hiked all the way around the lake, but for me it wasn't worth it.

It's a very nice place to be, not difficult at all unless you take the stairs. If you're looking for a workout, those steep stairs will whip you right into shape for sure. Otherwise, not a difficult trail by any stretch of the imagination. It's not even a trail really, everything is well and evenly paved. The view of the river to the side and the opposite view of the park and surrounding area from the top of the dam is fantastic.
