Kanyoo Trail is a 1.1 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Basom, New York that features a lake and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking and walking and is best used from April until October. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
Went last week, saw some herons, a bald eagle, frogs, fish. Shaded on most of it. Boardwalk was in the sun. We did the blue trail. They have them one way right now due to COVID. We didn’t see anyone else while hiking. Good hike for kids. We would go back.
There are two trails, yellow (.5 mi) and blue (~1 mi), both are well marked. I took the blue trail. The trailer was clear with some tree roots in the path in some locations. the boardwalk crosses a very large swamp/marsh with a great deal of waterfowl, mostly geese but did see one heron. A mostly shaded walk. I encountered very few bugs. A short, but beautiful walk through the woods.
Great family friendly hike, bring bug spray, binoculars and cameras for bird watching. The boardwalk is damaged in one part but still useable. Not muddy even in active rain.
Nice and easy, short and flat hike with well marked trails. No mud which was great given the time of year. Good trail for dogs, with nice views from the boardwalk. Great place for bird watchers.
