This trail is a short hike to a waterfall. In the summer you will want to check the water level because there might not be much water in the falls, and during periods of more rain the trail may be muddy. This is an easy hike along a well marked trail to the viewing platform and lower falls that experienced hikers and newcomers alike will enjoy. The difficulty increases as reach the waterfall but there are stairs put in and the trail is very well marked. This hike can be kid friendly, but watch children closely as the trail can be slippery. The waterfalls' fame in America really began when Washington Irving mentioned them in his story "Rip Van Winkle". The parking area is busy due to this being one of the more popular hiking trails in the Hudson Valley, so arrive early. If the main parking lot is full, there is a second parking lot which is about .3 miles from the trailhead. Makes for a great weekend trip from New York City. The upper falls and viewing platform can also be accessed from Laurel House Road.

Extremely icy this time of year, I would recommend getting some microspikes. It was slippery and icy on the trail so we had to navigate off trail to avoid any slips, wish I had brought some microspikes. I only saw a few people on the trail, it was a weekday and cold day. However there was people camping near the waterfall and lighting a campfire which is prohibited here. Kaaterskill Falls in the winter is a must do, it started snowing heavy mid trail for a hour non-stop which made it even more icy. The view on top was well worth it, couldn’t get really close to the waterfall at the bottom because of the conditions. Be careful climbing those slippery stairs, this place can be dangerous in the winter.

Icy this time of year, but so worth it. The waterfalls are incredibly beautiful. The trail was well marked - this app takes you to a lot where you have to walk along a road a bit to start. Don’t be alarmed, it isn’t that bad. Views, scenery, reward amazing. Would agree that the trail is moderately difficult.

Beautiful trail! It had rained for two days so - heavy waterfalls! Lots of ice on the steps leading down - be extra careful. Awesome time!

Amazing trail and a beautiful view of the falls! The only downside was I had to wait for parking but I did not have to wait an awful long time!

Unbelievable hike. Short but one of the best. Was dumping snow when i went and seems like it was enough to scare everyone else off. Winter wonderland with a breathtaking finish at the top!

Very easy, quick trail with one of the best waterfalls in the state. Walking along the road to get to the entrance is always sketchy though. Also definitely need microspikes when venturing closer to the second tier waterfall. Hiked on 11/23/19.

The falls were beautiful, especially with all the snow and ice in late fall. Some interesting history revolving around the falls and its discovery. Was really quiet for a raining Monday hike, only passed 4 other people. The road walking is a major problem, cars love speeding on this road, so be safe when walking to the trail head.

The only reason why this is graded as moderate difficulty is due to the icy trail conditions which could cause some slips if you’re not cautious enough. It is steep although there’s some trail stairs on some parts. This is a rocky trail at the beginning and gets easier when the road path starts passed the waterfall. Some huge logs are blocking the trail so you find your way to get through it. It was an awesome hike last Saturday and with the freezing temperature, it became more challenging.

the suggested path has you on highway/major road. it is not safe and should not be taken. go up the mountain a few more minutes and use that path in. 1.5 miles and then you can see the fall. DO NOT use the path that has you walking on the road. even suggesting that was total bullshit.
