This trail is experiencing full or partial closure due to COVID-19. Please see the open trails nearby for alternate hiking options. This trail is a short hike to a waterfall. In the summer you will want to check the water level because there might not be much water in the falls, and during periods of more rain the trail may be muddy. This is an easy hike along a well marked trail to the viewing platform and lower falls that experienced hikers and newcomers alike will enjoy. The difficulty increases as reach the waterfall but there are stairs put in and the trail is very well marked. This hike can be kid friendly, but watch children closely as the trail can be slippery. The waterfalls' fame in America really began when Washington Irving mentioned them in his story "Rip Van Winkle". The parking area is busy due to this being one of the more popular hiking trails in the Hudson Valley, so arrive early. If the main parking lot is full, there is a second parking lot which is about .3 miles from the trailhead. Makes for a great weekend trip from New York City. The upper falls and viewing platform can also be accessed from Laurel House Road.

We did this about a year ago but forgot to review. Crowded and busy. However, so gorgeous. This was an amazing experience and it should not be missed when the world re-opens. This trail is steep but it’s worth it.

My brother-in-law and I did this a while ago. It's definitely not for the kids or folks that have little experience hiking. The falls are beautiful. I've seen a bunch of waterfalls in New York, and these would be in the middle tier. There are better out there. The rocks can be dangerous, and the footing difficult. Just make sure you know what you're doing before you get on this trail. There's a lot of folks that think they're invincible, only to wind up an ambulance later.

Steep incline at the very beginning. About 20 minutes to get to the lower falls and if you want more you can continue up about another 30 minutes to the top of the falls. The parking area requires about a 5 minute walk along narrow 23A. Worth the views of the waterfall.

Incredible hike if you are looking for something quick and easy. It was very crowded the day we went.

First 3k are straight up (don’t do this hike if you’re afraid of stairs/heights) but the views are so worth it. Minimal ice patches here and there but nothing bad. Great hike.

recommend crampons for this trail when there is any ice, makes it much easier to navigate and you can walk onto the frozen waterfall. beautiful hike!

Very pretty falls. The hike to the bottom of them provides a nice view. Even nicer if you go up to the viewing platform. This hike was extremely icy. I would never do it without micro spikes and, ideally, poles. There are some stairs as you ascend to get to the top that are incredibly slick. Not doable in sneakers. However, beautiful falls in the ice and snow. Happy to have hiked it yesterday. Not too busy.
