As of April 28, 2020, users have reported that the Fire tower is closed, but you can still climb all the way to the top for great views of the Catskill. A 4,000 foot Catskill peak and one of the Northeast 111 in an easy day hike up to a great fire tower lookout. This is the most difficult route up Hunter Mountain, but also the shortest climbing 2,000 feet in just 2 miles! The top of this mountain has a little cabin, picnic table and a great fire tower you can climb for unbelievable views in all directions and down to the ski trails lower on the mountain.

Becker Hollow Trailhead: Take exit 21 off of I-87. From the exit travel east on route 23 to route 9W South which will take you onto 23A West. Travel this road 22 miles. Just before Hunter Mountain resort you will see Rte. 214 heading south. Take a left onto 214 and in just under a mile you'll see the trailhead parking for the Becker Hollow Route.

It was a difficult trail the last mile to top. The top was anticlimactic due to the only views being from the fire tower.

When you think it'll level off and stop going up, you find out you're wrong. It just keeps going up, and its rocky as hell. One of the steeper sections of trail I've had the pleasure of hiking. Cloudy morning with no views to speak off. Great hike all told.

Steep trail, but good one that pushes you a bit. A bit treacherous on the way down with loose rocks, especially when it’s wet.

Great afternoon hike. A difficult hike for sure. Lota of steep sections toward the top. But what a wonderful view from the top of the Firetower.

HikingMuddy

Just when you think it can’t get steeper, it does. And doesn’t stop. Must have poles on the top part decent. From the 3500 sign up is crazy until the yellow junction. That is fine for a bit, with steep parts. Blue coming down on the loop has some drops I had to do on my butt. Very hard. 2hrs going up 1.5 coming down. Fire tower and views from the top are great

We did it in the wet. It was nuts. Really challenging stuff. It’s like walking up a tiny waterfall after it rains, plan accordingly. Very nice hike, took us about 3 hours in the wet.

Very difficult hike more scary coming down. Loose rocks and slippery. Well marked and easy to follow. Spring on the connector trail. Excellent view at the top though cab is closed. Prepare for this one!!!

Steep and rocky trail, especially towards the end. Definitely wear hiking boots if you have them. The views from the fire tower at the top were amazing. Had to wait about 30 mins to climb up the tower.

Great hike! Hadn't hiked this trail before and was kept motivated by the impression that the top was "just a bit further", "just around the corner" which is what makes for a good hike. The only real view is from atop the tower. No water source on this trail, so bring A LOT OF WATER. After the 3,500' elevation marker it gets *very* steep and rocky, but there were some nice large rocks for taking a break. Definitely a hike for hiking poles and a buddy.

Amazing But tough trail. Relentless and I had to stop a lot cause Im a newbie. But doable. There is a wait at the fire tower for social distancing so make sure you announce your arrival lol or know who you came right after. Only one group of people who came together can go up at a time. If u came alone like me you go up alone. Had to wait 30 min to get up but that was nothing for the spectacular views from the top. Dont miss it. And oh yes bring plenty of water.

More moderate than hard. Further you go, the steeper it gets. Top is well worth it. We had lunch at the picnic table in the grassy field below the tower.

Good trail, steady incline the entire way up with some sections very steep/scramble. Careful on the trail as it's very rocky with a lot of loose stone, especially on the descent.

HikingGreat!

The Becker Hollow Trail was mostly shaded, very rocky, and very steep. It was a great challenge, with amazing views from the fire tower at the top! Wear boots on this hike as sneakers will not suffice with rocky uphill & downhill.
