Did Hill Road up to first view point on ridge trail. Very solitary and peaceful. Lovely trail. View on Dry Ridge much better than Pakatakan and you can see Pepacton Reservoir and valley to Andes. One week too late for peak foliage but still nice

HikingGreat!Over grown

The views from drybrook ridge made the whole loop worth it. The south part of the loop was very overgrown with lots of fallen trees on the trail and I had to search around for the trail markers and check the map to find my way. I parked at hill road and had to ascend for the last 1.5mi or so and would have parked at the trail head just south of it instead had I known. Only 2 other groups on the trail today. I took my dog and found a tick on him where all the overgrowth on the south loop was.

Nature tripsOver grown

Great hike! Very quiet, we only ran into a total of five hikers and one dog on the trail the whole time we were there. Had to do some searching for trail markers along the way as trees had fallen/other things had overgrown

Backpacking

One of the few loops in the Catskills and a beautiful hike. We did this loop a few weekends ago as an overnight hike. We started from the Hill road parking area and encountered only a few hikers on Dry Brook Trail. Note that there are no water sources except the creeks at Huckleberry Spur and Hull Road (not the name on the maps, Ploutz Rd actually). We hiked the north loop and camped near Ploutz Road, filled our water bottles and did the south loop the next day. The south loop is not as well kept, with some dead-falls and places where you can lose the trail, and coming down to Huckleberry Rd is steep, with a narrow ledge to walk. If you are fit enough, you might do the whole loop in a day, and I'd do the south loop first as it'd be better going up that slope than down it. All in all, this was a great weekend hike with very few people. Great views on Dry Brook Trail. The woods scenery on the south loop and the south east part of the train is excellent as well. Few bugs, no ticks, and heard some coyotes and deer at night.
