Long but great day out. Ascent up to a Dial was steeper than I anticipated, delaying us in making it for sunrise. The viewpoint faces west though, so somewhat of a moot point. Dial and Nippletop both has phenomenal views. Descent down Nippletop via Elk Pass is STEEP and unrelenting. Hoped to have a spot to filter water before heading up Blake/Colvin but only found standing water. With 1L left still, I opted not to filter. Ascent up Colvin was very steep and the views were AMAZING. Great summit to relax and hang. Descent off Colvin was again, steep. Two ladders in place. The first one is missing 2 rungs but it’s very manageable. I don’t know why everyone hates on Blake so much. I actually found it a very enjoyable and fun ascent. The scrambling and technicality of the route was very enjoyable. I actually really liked Blake. The summit has no views, sure. But there are great views along the way if you look around. Ascent back up Colvin was brutal, as expected. Opted to make a detour to Indian Head on the descent out and enjoyed the views there before heading back to the dreaded Lake Road. A long 4.5 mile walk out on the road was never ending but we finally made it.
