Perhaps the shortest route to a lean-to in all the Adirondacks, Gull Lake via Mill Brook Road is an easy hike for everyone! While you can hike directly from the Bear Creek Parking Area, you can continue down the road to a smaller parking area that is much closer to the lake. With a beautiful lake waiting as a reward, along with a lean-to not 25 feet from the shore, this is one that is not to be missed. There are even canoes and paddles at the shore that one can use for further adventures and exploring in the wilderness! If you plan on making this a camping destination, there are multiple trails that connect very close by, such as Chub Pond, Big Woodhull Lake, and Sand Lake. This is an outdoor enthusiasts dream!

this was a family day hike for us with our dog. we parked at the first lot, not knowing that the first mile or so was walking on a gravel road. when we got to the second lot, we missed the trailhead and continued straight on the snowmobile trail for about 0.5mi. a nice couple who had made the same mistake but gone much further corrected us and we went back and got on the right trail. the trail is pretty easy and well worn, we saw some wildlife (including a whitetail deer) and the view from the lean-to is excellent!

Just a beautiful hike! If you are able to park in the newer parking area on Mill Brook Road, the hike is only 2.6 miles total! Just drive beyond the larger Bear Creek Road Parking area if you desire. Even if you start out at the larger area, this is still a very doable hike for all ages, and the lean-to site is RIDICULOUSLY picturesque. The lean-to is not 25 feet from the shore, and if you are lucky there will be canoes and paddles at the shore for further exploring. Just an amazing hike.
