Green Lakes Perimeter Trail is a 9.7 mile heavily trafficked loop trail located near Fayetteville, New York that features a lake and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
Green Lakes State Park offers a number of short trails that can be combined to create a variety of walking experiences. This loop trail is just one of many possibilities that lets walkers see the entire park. The trail may be easily extended to the northeast and can be started from many of the park's parking lots. The trail around the lakes is the most crowded. Walking along the outer edge of the golf course avoids a road walk through the southeast portion of the park, but please be respectful of golfers and stay off the course when they're using it.
This was my first time at this park, I chose this trail because it had distance. I ended up with just over 10 miles. Overall I enjoyed this trail, there is nothing difficult about it and you get to see many different aspects of the park. The only thing negative about this trail is the miles of open meadows, I wish there were more forest miles, but the forest sections it has are beautiful. To complete this loop, navigation is a must. I uploaded the trail to my Garmin, you cross many trail intersections and at one point there were 5 different trails to choose from.
Good trail. Not very challenging but it was a nice trail walk. We ended up doing 8.8 miles and it took us 2 hours and 45 minutes.
Too much road and field. not enough of the trail went through the trees but when it did, it was beautiful. would have liked to see more of the lakes
Gave this trail a whirl on 9/19/20 and it was as good as advertised. Trail itself was wide and very well maintained. It had the perfect blend of elevation changes and provided various changes of scenery. I kept the app open because it can get confusing which way to go, but you could shorten/lengthen this hike as much as you'd like. Awesome hike and would highly recommend.
It was a great hike but the trail was poorly marked. The terrain was open meadow in the beginning with more forest coverage afterward. The lake is amazingly beautiful with blue and clear water.
Did the lake portion. Very pretty and easy walk. The beach was a little packed though and did not smell good.
Truly beautiful park, the lakes are gorgeous and the paths are generally well-maintained. However, this particular map is very inaccurate in several places. It just becomes a walk through a golf course (four!!) for over a mile, then along an active road, through a bunch of parking lots, and then just a really long car camping segment of the park. Greater attention could have been given to the route directed by this map, because like I said, it was otherwise really gorgeous and worth seeing.
Several nice trails. The main trail is pretty busy but the rest are ok. Check it out sometime.
Great place with so many amenities. Swimming, camping, bike riding, hiking and more. Nice length of trails that are well labeled. Would recommend!
Good place to do a nice long run! It’s greatly marked so hard to get lost.
