Great Bear Recreational Area Loop Trail is a 2.4 mile heavily trafficked loop trail located near Phoenix, New York that features a river and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Dogs and horses are also able to use this trail.
Been coming here for years. Trails well marked as always. Only saw one runner on our trails. Walked for an hour and a half. Outer loop trail was very mucky. Definitely recommend taller hiking boots or mucks for those areas. Overall great weather and great walk.
Great trail. Lots of mud and still a little snow. As people have said, markings a little tough and we did take a few wrong turns, but it was a nice little hike
Trails marked but there are so many paths that it warrants more markers.
After some snow melt and a few freezes, the trail is slippery and gummed up by bikers. Only 7 cars at 9am but 22 cars by 11am, so get there early. People (read: hikers) were masked, which was good to see.
Beautiful scenery. Lightly traveled. Mostly bikers. Good for dogs. Easy trail with light incline. Trail markers are hard to find and see though.
Fantastic trails, went almost 5 miles could have done couple more. Avoid low land purple trail if you have horses.
Heavily trafficed trails, very busy on this Saturday. Lots of activities going on including bikes and horses so walkers keep an eye out. Well marked and lots of intersecting trails so get the map and know where you want to go or you could end up going in circles.
Great as always. A little discouraged that the traffic here is not slowing down at all. This used to be a hidden gem within five minutes of my home. Now everyone knows it’s here and it’s always busy. Also frustrated as a pet owner to see so many others not picking up after their pets. Do your part and don’t ruin it for others!
trails are well maintained it wasn't that buggy even though it was dusk. but some of the trails further away from the entrance are really poorly marked We ended up having to use a compass to try to figure out how to come back even with the maps on all trails
Trails were poorly marked but none the less a good place to hike with diverse landscapes. Note yellow arrow is not the yellow trail. The yellow circle is.
great area! a little buggy and muddy in only some areas. not a lot of parking. if it's a weekend there's probably a lot of bikers on the trail? there are a lot of extra trails not marked, make sure you bring a map or you're all trails! photography should be a selected activity, this park is great for that
I like this place, but it would be better if people kept their dogs on leashes. More recently, there have been several incidents involving dogs attacking other dogs off leash and it sadly makes me think twice about coming here with my mutt. When people are respectful, it can be a great little escape.
