We had an awesome time on this challenging trail. It’s a bear to get to the top- literally up a steep mountain of rocks the whole way. But once you get to the top, the view is breathtaking. Seriously one of the most sweeping views I’ve ever seen anywhere! The kids are 8&11 and had no trouble. Plenty of social distancing room. We plan on bringing a tent next time and staying at the top, like some do.

Been a couple of years since I’ve last hiked this trail. It was a bit difficult to social distance near the trailhead as foot traffic increased midday. Over all, it’s a great moderate hike- wear proper footwear as it’s extremely rocky!

Would actually say 3.5, but that option isn't available on AllTrails. The rating of moderate was accurate, though difficult may describe some parts. The beginning of the trail was pretty busy, making it difficult to maintain social distancing. However, once we moved farther along, we didn't see anyone. The views were beautiful and we enjoyed the rocks and mild scrambling. Rewarding, but nothing super spectacular. If you go in the summer, be mindful of the slippery rocks and wear good shoes. Well marked and easy to follow.

Lots of people today going up to giant ledge. Otherwise great trail. Steep grades the entire way up.

Rock scrambles along the trail were fun. Hike was both enjoyable and challenging. Several groups of people out on the trail when I was there. A couple great look out spots!

I loved it. It was a great day to hike not crowded we met with nice people. This wasn’t too easy it was a intense and challenging . But like others say lots of flies (that’s part of nature)it was so relaxing ,rocky and lots of climbing . Catskills Mountain is the best we drove 3 hours 30 minutes it worth it . The best view comes after the hardest climb which there was a magnificent view from the ledges.

The beginning was a lot a up hill rock/scramble. Some areas had stones cut out as easy to climb stairs. I would definitely rate this hike as moderate because although the uphills were a bit tough, there were breaks in between that were flat surface and each area of the hike changed a bit from the last. We were in the open walking up rock, then through an area that felt cooler under tall trees. Then by giants ledge there were about 4 or 5 spots to choose from to take photos. Beautiful views! More buggy the higher we hiked. The bugs weren’t the worst I’ve ever seen. We still enjoyed our summit break while we ate some PB&J’s!

A really great day of hiking. A bit steep in spots, but overall pretty manageable. The view from the ledges is quite spectacular. Loved the smell of the pine forest above 3500 feet. Not too crowded and not much in the way of bugs. A few wet spots along the way, but nothing too tricky.

Great trail. Our dog required a boost on a few rock scrambles, but otherwise had no issue on this hike. There are two small sections that are a bit muddy and buggy right now. Overall lots of shade and very well maintained trail.

Giant Ledge by itself was an incredible day hike (although short) and the views are spectacular. Panther, on the other hand, was a major disappointment and felt like a waste of time. I wouldn’t bother with Panther in spring/summer unless you’re just trying to bag a 3500 peak. Hiked to Giant Ledge in the evening and it was beautiful. Hiked Panther the next morning and it was miserable. It was a hot, still morning, and the entire trail was absolutely swarming with constant large house flies and horse flies, to the point where I feel like I’m still hearing that constant buzzing hours later. Definitely recommend going on a windy day and in the afternoon, if you bother with Panther at all.

We just did this trail today! Perfect balance of hiking, shade, and rewards of beautiful views at the top. From the trailhead to the giant ledge viewpoints it’s 1.8 miles, but it’s mostly up hill and stepping up rocks. Def a great workout, felt like we hiked way more than 3.75 miles! Enjoy the views

Hiking

My fiancé and I hiked this on Saturday 6/13/2020. It took us about 6 hours up and back. We really enjoyed this hike especially Giant Ledge. The views were AMAZING. There are a bunch of different spots that are small so a lot of them were taken but we managed to find a spot and sat for a little bit. Panther mountain was nice but the views were limited. We didn’t stay up there as long. There are some tough climbs up the rocks but it evened out with some flat parts so it was definitely doable (we are beginners). Be careful coming back down. When you see the sign that points to all different trails make sure to make a sharp right down the rocks and follow the yellow markers. We were so tired that we accidentally went straight (looks like a trail but is unmarked) other people near us made the same mistake so it must be a common error so just watch out for that! Overall I definitely recommend this trail!

Really beautiful hike and well-maintained trail. If you’re looking for spectacular views, you could do without going to Panther, the view is limited there. Took about 4 hours at a quick pace with a stop for lunch. Highly recommend!

I loved the hike! It took us nearly 7 hours to complete it! But it was worth it. Nice views! Be ready for rocky up climb. The rock for the view at the panther mountain is not as big so be mindful to share with others :)

Fantastic trail. Better to do this trail in the summer than fall as crowds were way less than when I went last fall. Panther is tough so be prepared if you're doing both.

I'm honestly a bit torn on this one. The views at Giant Ledge are unreal and the hike to get there is challenging and fun. It's a bit crowded, but we were able to get one of the last ledges to ourselves. That part alone I would have given 5 stars, but since we drove 1.5 hours to get there, we decided to tackle Panther Mtn too. That was a tough ask for 2 of the 3 boys (ages 9,12,14), but they made it and I expected to be rewarded with at least as good of a view spot at the top. Sadly, the views from atop Panther are mostly blocked by trees and the one ledge with the best views (which again were not as good as Giant Ledge) was too crowded for us to camp there for lunch. I wouldn't recommend Panther unless your in good shape and are doing it for the hike itself (and not the payoff). The dogs did well here and only needed a boost a couple times.
