Fox Preserve Loop is a 0.9 mile lightly trafficked loop trail located near Albany, New York that features a river and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
The Fox Preserve is 70 acres of protected land in Colonie. This 70-acre property was donated to the Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy. The Fox Preserve’s trail system winds through diverse habitats. The trail passes Shaker Creek. Old oak trees provide habitat for migratory birds like the Baltimore oriole, and open fields create ideal nesting areas for eastern bluebirds, the state bird of New York.

Brand new trail as of October 2017, wouldn't be surprised if over time re-routing may occur due to erosion.
From NY 7 right onto Buhrmaster Road and continue for .5 miles Turn right onto River Road and the parking lot will be on the right after 0.5 miles 4200 River Rd., Latham, NY (easy to miss coming from the west) [If you miss it, turn around, and it is easy to see coming from the east]
Very quiet. I see and iced over mud inclines made it a little challenging in parts. Over all screen and beautiful. 8 out of 10 would absolutely recommend. Looking forward to returning in other seasons this year.
A bit muddy, but it’s getting so cold it’s just turning to ice anyway. I’ll definitely be back here.
cute little hike - well maintained with wooden walkways. view over creek. narrow at times so if aggressive dog should avoid
Nice easy walk in the park. Saw a garden snake on the trail today!
Great preserve terrain variations clearings, little stream. Watch out for roots and stay off private property.
This was my daughter and my first trip the this preserve. Trail was in really good shape this morning. We saw a poplar tree that had fallen across the trail and had been very recently removed by a crew. The sweet smell of fresh poplar hung in the cool morning air. A few little ups and downs, but overall a very pleasant trail for a short walk. Boardwalks and puncheons crossed several spots that could be muddy after a rain or snow melt. Thanks to the awesome folks at HMLC for protecting this neat little spot.
A nice trail with a sweet little picnic area, with a table and a bench. Mosquitoes were bearable (used the shareable/laminated trail map at trail head as a fan) and had a pleasant 30 minute walk with the dog for a lunch break. The propane gun at a nearby farm (used to scare off scavengers from the fields) sounded like I was near a gun range at times but in the winter there should be a nice view of the Mohawk River from the picnic area.
This was a great trail for beginners. Brought the kids (5, 8). We did great. Next time we will explore more to get down to the water.
We went on a rainy day. The trail looks like it was just maintained. It was a nice walk through the woods and took a little explore to the Shaker Creek. Great for my little kids.
Took the kids, who had a great time. Short trip, great views, nice local hike.
Has a nice stopping point with a bench to look over the Mohawk River. Also nice path along Shaker Creek. There is an extra White Spur trail (0.3 miles) that is not shown on the All Trails map that comes off the south side of the Orange Trail and reconnects with it.
Short, pretty option for the cold weather right now. If you like snowy winterscapes this is a good choice. A bit slick in places.
This was a pretty trail with a couple of scenic vistas. It was hilly enough to be interesting, but not treacherous. About 10 minutes into our walk it began to RAIN! So a 20% chance of rain became a downpour- only in Albany, lol!. Next time we come back we will do both trails.
Loaded with ticks. Trail is OK, nice walk, quite pretty, but nothing too special. Not sure it was worth the ticks, I pulled at least 4 off my dog.
