A short trail walk with a beautiful hidden pond. There are actually two ponds and a marshy area that can be enjoyed after a very small walk. Copperas Pond and Owen can be done as an "In and Out" trail or as a loop that ends at the trailhead up the road.
need more markers from Owens pond back to 86. Great little hike
we did this short hike in October, as I was Scouting trails to take our girl scout troop on. I'd say the trail raising as easy is true. it's short, small inclines and leads to various spots to look out onto the water. also, features a lean-to. beautiful, peaceful views.
Would rate this moderate, but it's a quick climb up to this lake. Very breathtaking, can be done in a hour.
A little bit steep but a fun little up-hill rocky walk, I went with my boyfriend around sunset, descent was a little icy due to the rain and sleet that was coming down lightly that day. We had a lot of fun on the walk up to the pond, only took about twenty minutes. We are definitely considering staying at the lean-to on our of our next trips to the lake placid area. A very quick brisk walk up and back.
Steep and rocky but short. Hiked this with my 10 and 11 year olds. Took about 20 minutes to reach the pond. Very beautiful. Nice place to swim. There were some rocks to jump off of. Didn't stay long because we were trying to beat the rain. Hoping to do it again before we leave Lake Placid.
nice narrow path through the woods. lots of mosquitoes. hike up could be rough but after that its nice. good views of the lake.
Nice path but short
Actually did this trail by starting at Owens Pond and coming down Copperas, which totaled about 4 miles. Owens is more scenic. Also, I certainly you wouldn’t want to have started the walk climbing up from the copperas trailhead. Nice little leanto at the pond though.
Sunny and cold winter day. Challenging in the snow but the view of the lake was worth it!
Not ideal at all for running since there are a ton of rocks and roots. The trail needs some maintenance since some areas branches cover the path. The path is narrow but copperas pond is a beautiful view. Bug spray is a must!
Easy trail with beautiful views at the pond. Lean to available as well!
This was a little more strenuous than we expected for a trail labeled easy but it was perfect for the whole family. We found a spot to jump into the lake and cool down. Remember your bug spray.
very nice hike. the pond is beautiful
Easy family walk to a great big swimming hole.
Awesome
we did this as a morning hike in autumn. the trail was amazing and the ponds are pretty beautiful nestled at the bottom of the Sentinel Mountain range and Wilmington Notch. I would suggest for those who would not like a steep climb to start out at Owen Pond trailhead and hike north to Copperas Pond. the descent from Copperas is pretty steep but much more manageable hike than trying to climb Copperas. There is are two primitive tent sites and a leanto for those interested in staying overnight. This short hike is a great for children and offers some amazing views of fall colors.
I loved this trail. Stopped at several site. Peaceful and tranquil. Saw a little wildlife couple woodpeckers and a small hawk. Didn't run into any other hikers. Very serene day.
Nous avons fait l'aller et le retour Owen pond cooperas pond et Winch pond. Plutôt facile
Easy trail. Beautiful lake. Highly recommend.

yes, the first .2 miles is rocky and steep but then it levels out. We went right, probably should have gone left when we got to the pond. Got into borders and turned around. Beautiful pond. Swimming and camping.
Although short it was a very half mile steep climb. You think pond, no climbing but you do have to climb. Also quite rocky. The pond was beautiful and we met some teenagers going for a swim.
use the second parking area coming from wilmington and it will be easy!! otherwise you will have a difficult time
Rocky. Decent elevations. Trail markings not very well placed. Great view of pond.
One of our favorite places! The trail is an easy 0.6 miles each way which can also be done as an extended loop to include Owen. At least once a summer we enjoy the small hike up to the pond with the kids to jump off the rocks or swim across to the other side. A beautiful spot.
