Walking

A great loop for walking/running. Mostly gravel and even terrain. If you venture from the loop towards the centre of the Park there is opportunity to vary the terrain, especially if you walk/run through the rumble. During the week it’s been easy to enjoy this lovely space and still socially distance. Overall a great place to get outdoors.

RunningGreat!

Excellent loop, mainly gravel. Perfect for walking, running and biking. On the weekends the park will get very busy. Highly suggest going early unless you want to feeling that your running in a race with a ton of people. I recommend not running / walking here at night out of an abundance of caution for your safety. Overall, fantastic place to workout. Highly recommend and blessed this park is in New York City!

Everybody who is local to NYC should do a Central Park loop are some point, the trail recommended by the app is better for running or cycling or just walking but I wouldn’t necessarily call it hiking since you are walking on the asphalt. Central Park has a lot to offer and you can get off the route for some beautiful scenery.

It has been given 5 stars solely as a running track, but as for hiking—-it merits ZERO stars.

Turning your city park into a hiking trail involves a shift in perspective, more than any practical preparations, but to assist with the perspective, I did the preparation and dressed the part: day pack and hiking shoes, trail snacks, and bug spray. Who knew, seven miles of urban meander surrounded by urban jungle could be so rewarding? Take good company, as I did. And resist the shortcuts.
