Fine trail for beginners road biking. Not really an off road path.

As the name implies, it's a pathway, not a trail... 95% of it is paved, so wear sneakers or even sandals, not hiking boots, as I regrettably did.

According to Google Maps and the GPS from AllTrails, it's only about 12 miles, not the 16 miles stated other places. It took me about 3.5 hours to walk.

It's a very suburban, easy walk. No incline. Flat, paved surface. Family oriented. Lot's of children on bikes. Somewhat crowded on weekends, though I don't know about week days. Closes at dusk.

The nice thing about the pathway is that it runs along the Bronx River, which is more of a stream. Easy going, pleasant scenery, makes for a nice walk or bike ride. Reminded me of an extended trip through Central Park.

I walked from south (Bronxville) to north (Valhalla). So the the highlight of the trip is finishing at the Kensico Reservoir and Dam. It's really beautiful.

I give it two stars because the path runs between the Bronx River Parkway, which is a highway, and the Metro North Railway. So there is no escape from civilization, no real peace and quite. You have to pass through a couple parking lots, street intersections, etc...

Worse part is that there is a break half way though. Basically from Scarsdale to Hartsdale, about a mile along side a road with no sidewalk.

This is not so much a destination pathway. It's more of a quick bit of recreation for locals.

When living in Tuckahoe, this was a short walk to the path and we would walk to either Bronxville or Crestwood. What makes this path unique aside from the small lakes, foot bridges, lower hudson valley "black" squirells and water fowl is its close proximity to the road and towns where you can stop for lunch. Great trail for biking also. Spent way too much time here than can count both on foot and by bike. Note for Sundays in the summer time, Bronx River Parkway is closed so people can ride bikes. Hope you enjoy this.

I live right near the path so it's easy to hop on right after work. It's a great trail for biking or walking, it's paved and pretty scenic given that it's near the parkway but also the river. I usually ride from Scarsdale to Bronxville which is a nice ride and small to medium hills in some spots. I've also rode to the Kensico Dam which I found to be more hills but nothing crazy. I have also done from Bronxville to Valhalla which I believe is about 22 miles round trip. It makes for a great ride and there are benches along the way you can stop and rest if you so desire. My only wish is that the Scarsdale - Valhalla was connected, you have to ride some side streets to get to the next part of the trail but other than that it's a great ride!

It is a paved and nice trail. But one major drawback. Its practically right next to the bronx river parkway. It is horrible in that aspect. But besides that its really pretty because you are right next to bronx river. There are benches located in certain spots that you can rest at.
