it was a nice hike! there's a section in the middle that was unmarked but we were able to find the way following the stream and the app.

Not sure why anyone would complain about any part of this trail. No noise, very little traffic. Awesome view of NYC at the summit. We did this trail counterclockwise, which is our recommendation. You will have a tough uphill climb before the summit, but better up than down that path. Clearly marked and the app helped keep us on track. All in, with lunch stop, was 4:35 for 7.5 miles.

Nice trail at times too close to traffic noise. Busy close to the lake

Nice fall hike. Follow Yellow -> Red -> 1779 (look for cairns and turn right) -> Owl lake (pretty wide road, right turn) . Once the lake road ends, there are no markers but keep following the lake drainage and it will take you straight to -> Red cross trail -> Yellow (after the bridge). Around 3hrs moving time

Went clockwise to get the elevation done early. Not very well marked after Black Mountain summit - easy to wander off trail. Make sure to check the app periodically.

Great hike with some beautiful views and foliage. Parking lot was busy but trail was pretty empty especially for a Saturday. Part of this hike follows an unmarked path that’s not technically a trail, but it’s along a stone wall & stream so pretty easy to follow. I think both directions have a comparable climb, possibly counter clockwise could be steeper and then you would be facing the views more as you hike along the ridge. Either direction offers a great hike. Took us a little over 2 hours.

Very rocky after you leave the lake to the where the loop itself starts. For the most part very well marked and pretty much clean. Lost the markers like twice but easy to get back on the trail itself. Definitely would recommend. Walked the loop clockwise.

Trail was more difficult than we initially thought it was going to be. We did the full loop with a dog. It was definitely longer than 7 miles. Suggest to do the loop counter clockwise so the hard stuff is out of the way. The first few miles there is a lot of rocky incline to the summit of black mountain. The back half of the loop is relatively flat and easy. It’s also less trafficked There is some incline again when getting back to the yellow. I would definitely suggest using the app. We missed a trail change and followed another trail out to the palisades parkway. We had to use the tracker to figure out where we were to get back on the correct path. There are also points where there is no phone service. We did yellow to white/white red dot. Turn right onto 1779 (we missed this turn at first), then turned right to an unmarked trail which we needed the app to figure out. Then owl lake road to Red Cross and then back to yellow. It was a difficult hike for us in the beginning but know that we did it and know what we got ourselves into we would do it again. It took us about 5 hours with a lunch a break and few water breaks.

The trail was lightly trafficked specially couple of miles in. There are couple of uphills but other than that relatively easy. The lake is beautiful and you can dip your feet in the water if you find the right spot. There were trees on the trail not taken care of but really not a big issue as the serenity of the hike more than make up for it.
