Many beautiful parts of the trail, but the final 1-1.5 miles near the turnaround was steep and not too exciting - hard to know you’re going to have to about-face and clamber back up. I would turn around a little earlier and make this a great 9-miler. Altogether a rewarding climb!

5/27/19 Not recommended for beginners or out of shape. (Both could definitely do the hike, but be warned my group was having a hard time 30 min into it- I did it with a broken hand, and it wasn’t too bad) Took 2 cars, started at big hollow and cut out the back part. Trekking poles highly encouraged. Lower wet areas had a LOT of bugs, but the rest of the trail had practically none. I just got back and am already planning a trip to do this hike again in the fall. I cannot speak highly enough about this hike. Incredible views, great physical activity, lovely experience. Be sure to stop every so often for water on the little overlooks. There is a natural spring that is marked with a sign, water is safe to drink (I drank it) but I wouldn’t drink a lot. Be sure to bring plenty of water, a snack, and a good camera.
