Easy 0.8 mile RT hike on a wide access road to a firetower with a nice view. At 1840 feet, Belfry Mountain is a short hike (0.35 miles) to a summit of only 1840 feet but it offers a great view. The trail consists of a service road that is used for the communications tower at the top and the firetower.

Got to Belfry Mt early on 9/22/2018 as the first of a 4 firetower day. I made sure to get up extra early so I could catch the sunrise over Lake Champlain into Vermont.
The trail follows a service road up to the tower. Before the summit is a short road off to the right that goes to a cell tower... that's not it. I kept following the road to a little shack, also on the right, and still didn't see the firetower.
The road turned grassy and overgrown, but then, right after the shack was the firetower. For such a short hike, the views over to Vermont at sunrise were beautiful and my 3:00am wake-up time paid off big time to enjoy it.
The whole hike up and back was only 25 minutes, and that's with time enjoying the sunrise and taking some pictures. The firetower cab is accessible also. Well worth the short hike up and easy enough for anyone to go check it out!

This is a nice firetower to bring people to who are not hikers but with whom you would still like to share a firetower.

Not really a hike. But it’s a great half mile walk up a gravel road to the tower.
And the view from the fire tower is awesome! Great vistas of Lake Champlain and the green mountains to the east, and the Adirondacks to the west.
Must be beautiful in the height of autumn ... well worth the trouble to seek out and hike.
Speaking of seeking out, best directions are this.
From the Tracey road, turn left onto dalton hill road. Go one mile. Parking is on the right, trailhead on the left.
Enjoy the easiest fire tower peak in the fire tower challenge!

This is not a hike. This is a short walk on a gravel road to the fire tower. The views from the tower are nice, and this is the easiest fire tower of the challenge. Also, there are three geodetic trail markers on the "summit" to look for. My daughter loves finding them. If you plan on coming here, pair this location with another hike, especially if traveling.

A quick and easy walk that got me closer to finishing the fire tower challenge. I paired this hike with Hurricane and did both in 1 day.

Very quick hike. Only took me 10 minutes to the Tower. Views were beautiful!

Nice views but more of a short walk than a hike.

The word 'hike' doesn't apply here. However, this is a Firetower & if you're pursuing the patch, I recommend pairing with another for a nice day trip. (I personally did Hurricane > Poke-O-Mooshine > Belfrey tag session).

That being said, the view from the tower is Fantastic! Beautiful, especially at sunset, where its an easy walk back to the car.

(Tag this tower last & you wont feel so guilty for such an amazing view with no struggle).

Beautiful God's country!

Just a small steep walk up a dirt road. But the views from the fire tower are amazing!

Hiked on 5/27/18. Trail was basically an access road that led up to the mountain. Very short walk , approx 30 mins round trip plus time spent at summit. Fire tower was open and the views were pretty sweet from atop. Definitely the easiest hike if you’re doing the fire tower challenge like I am, #18 in the books!

Definitely a walk in the woods. Can be done in regular sneakers ! Trail is mostly melted .. beautiful views from the tower ! Took up less than 20 minutes up and down

Easy walk, as prior reviewers said. If you are doing the fire tower challenge, it is the easiest trip. Nice view of the High Peaks to the west and a bit of Lake Champlain to the east

Easy walk, it wasn’t too icy today. Beautiful view from the tower.

Great little walk or short run along a dirt road. However Very rewarding views from the Fire Tower Cab for the short distance. Stopped here after Poke-O-Moonshine and was not disappointed.

It's not a hike. We did this after Cheney Mountain to grab some extra easy views and check it off the fire tower challenge. I didn't mind that it was an access road or that there were antenna buildings... But, I was let down by the amount of trash and graffiti... I get that it's a party spot and don't have a problem with that... But, at least please pick up your garbage.

Great hike for the firetower challenge. 30 minutes up and back

If your looking for a "hike" this isn't it. If you want to see a firetower and some amazing views, this is the place. We did this one on a 88 degree day and thank goodness it wasn't any more than what it is. Glad it's part of the firetower challenge

Easy, short walk up a gravel road. You can climb the tower which has beautiful views. If your in the area you should take a few minutes and check it out. Parking is roadside across from the trail, small sign posted at entrance.

Super easy
Outstanding views
A great cherry on top of a weekend of Adk adventure

Not a hike. I did this a month after having my hip labrum repaired and I was on crutches.
Do this if you are working towards your firetower badge. Otherwise do yourself a favor and pick a slightly challenging hike for far better views and more hiking effort/fun.

Great sunset. Just a short walk up a gravel road and you're there.

Monday, July 03, 2017

If you're in the area and want a quick stop this hike is definitely a cool place to go. It's quick, easy, and it's on a gravel road. Beautiful sights at the top of the fire tower.

Climbed up the fire-tower steps around dusk and although the hike is on a gravel road and not enjoyable at all, I loved the view from the top. I liked looking into Vermont's Green Mountains and also enjoyed doing a altitude comparison with the water tower that was to the north. I also liked looking out at the small town with the sky turning all shades of pink and purple. Hard to beat the effort to payoff ratio here.

very easy hike, took my son and i 5 minutes to the top. beautiful views from the top of the fire tower!

Incredibly easy! Google maps are horrible sometimes, when you get off 87 and onto Tracy road, follow it to a stop sign and take the left on Dalton something road/ County Route 70. The parking area is up ahead shortly on the right. Again, very easy.

A nice quick walk/hike to a firetower to see views of the high peaks. Very easy to do.

8/26/16~75, mostly sunny. Parking lot is on the opposite side of the trail. Slight incline on a dirt road which turns into a trail right before the tower. Stay to your left, as there are some turns to your right that go no where. Trail is not marked. No bugs, no wildlife, 2 women on the trail, is the only people I saw. Quick hike but worth it when you get to the tower. Took my dog with me, total of .82 including going off the trail.

Easy hike for children. Good view from the top. Incredible views from the fire watch tower.
