Bauer Environmental Park Loop is a 0.9 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Albany, New York that features beautiful wild flowers and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from April until November. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
The trail is about 90% boardwalk; easy to walk/run on and/or bring wheelchairs/strollers. All ages area able to walk here. Beautiful in the fall with leaf colors. Accessibility: This asphalt and wooden boardwalk trail is estimated to typically be at least 3 feet wide. AllTrails users have noted that some boards may be broken/missing and that passing is difficult because of the narrowness of the trail. There may not be pullout areas to pass safely. The slope is estimated to be flat to gentle and range from -3% (downhill) to 3% (uphill) grade. There are edge barriers and handrails along some portions of this trail. There is at least 1 ADA-compliant car parking spot with an access aisles at the small paved trailhead lots at either end of this trail.
The trail is almost 100% in the shade; thus this can encourage algae growth on the boardwalk. When wet the boardwalk is also slippery. This trail is 90% well maintained boardwalk. No bicycles allowed.
Take Sand Creek Road West from Wolf Road in Colonie, The main parking lot is 0.8 miles on your right. There is additional parking at the other trailhead at the end of Sunset Blvd (which is 0.4 miles on the right from Wolf Road)
Very icy! Wear appropriate shoes and be careful. Otherwise, great!
A fully boardwalked trail from beginning to end. Some boards are in need of replacing and some spots are slick with algae. Narrow walkway so it's tricky to safely walk past others in opposite direction. Perhaps small dogs are better to bring here than larger ones. I myself prefer to walk directly on the ground than a boardwalk.
wood planks are slippery with wet leaves but veiws are Beautiful.Excellent walk
Really lovely walk, not demanding at all. Pine needles can be slippery on the wood tho
Super cute. Quick walk. Nice place for kids. Can bring stroller if you have little ones.
Pros - really easy trail - loads of wildlife and flowers - quiet - dog friendly - wheelchair friendly - scenic Cons - many of the boards are broken and/or missing - mosquitoes galore - no arrows to tell you where to go despite it being a loop (it had trails leading to streets - hard to stay on the walkway for covid purposes if other people are on there
Trail was alright. I had a stroller. The boardwalk would have been nice, if it wasn’t covered in algae type of stuff. It was very slippery even on a dry day. A few down hills that if I wasn’t careful my walking child and stroller would went flying. Just be careful. We were dressed appropriately, just one of those things, that if maintained it would be a real nice trail for a 1 and 2 year old. Lots of bugs. But that was expected. Nice shade.
This trail is perfect when you need a shorter walk and nothing too far away. It’s a good place to bring kids- the colorful plastic bugs placed along the trail gives them something to look for. My only caution is that the wood on the boardwalk gets slippery when it’s wet out. Otherwise, an unexpectedly pleasant trail.
Great short walk with kids. All boardwalks, and the kids had a blast running on the boardwalk. As other folks have mentioned, there are little plastic lizards and frogs attached to a number of benches and railings, which made it fun for the kids to hunt for these! I could see it being buggy in the summer as lots of swampy areas and small streams, but it was great in early April.
A really nice easy trail walk for winter. They do not clear or maintain the boardwalk, so it can be slippery at times. Make sure you sure footed. It was beautiful winter walk.
Nice, quiet place to walk. Boardwalk is slippery with snow and ice
