Description
Waypoints (0)

The Ridge Trail leaves from the main parking area. The trail is generally well defined and marked with orange diamonds or orange ribbon in a few spots. The trail starts out rocky as it winds its way around a flattened stone fence but quickly joins up with what was probably an old cart path used by the neighboring farm. Right before that intersection there is a junction for the loop the trail makes but it is not well marked from this side. At approximately 0.75 of a mile the trail makes a sharp left onto a less wide but still well defined path through the woods. One does have to cross four tributaries to the Poestenkill but they are narrow and stepping stones can be found to cross over dryly. The trail comes to the Poestenkill opposite the southern terminus of the Creek Trail and then climbs a ridge alongside of the stream. While glimpses of the falls can be seen from the trail, hemlocks block a clear view. For more information, please visit https://www.rensselaerplateau.org/barbervillefalls.

The trail is a little rocky, but absolutely beautiful. It is a very nice short spring hike. Be prepared for a little mud, but overall a very enjoyable hike!

Slippery and muddy in some parts so pay closer attention to your footing, but still a nice quick hike.

My first hike with my toddler after winter hibernation. The back half is a lot of climbing; it was more challenging than I expected! The trail had several intersecting creeks that have to be crossed carefully. The falls are gorgeous and still had some snow and ice on them.

Easy hike. Ridge trail was snowy, falls trail was icy. Falls were almost completely frozen which was pretty cool. It just feels short and I wish there were more trails and a bridge across the creek and stuff. Two different groups of people had dogs off leash — Y'all please cut that out.

This is a wonderful hike, but as the level of skill is noted, it is moderate. We chose to hike the trail a day after a very heavy rainstorm, and the streams you needed to cross were rushing heavily. There are no bridges or puncheons. You had to cross on rocks which was very tricky on this day. Also the side trail to view the actual falls is quite steep, but worth it. The view of the falls is magnificent.

The trail is covered with trip hazards and not well marked. Also, the directions to the trailhead are inaccurate. All trails has you park on the highway. If you keep going up the highway and take the first right, there is an actual parking lot for this and the waterfall trail.

Not very well mapped out with trail markers and it was pretty slippery at time but made up for that with good views and peaceful sounds

Some of the Ridge Trail isn't well-marked. Trail markers many times are above eye level.

It was a peaceful hike. But I must agree with most that the trails weren’t clearly marked. Due to recent storm that hit the region, there were few fallen trees that blocked the trail. If it wasn’t because of this app, I would’ve easily got lost TWICE. This trail was easy to moderate but mostly easy. Fun for a quick trip and last minute plan.
