started at Dennytown rd hiked to 301. my brother and I camped out one night. saw 5 or 6 fire pit campsites along the way only a few taken. Didn't encounter any dangerous wildlife besides one black racer midday. more of a moderate hike made strenuous with our 40lbs camping packs. over all a pleasant experience.

The Three Lakes - Appalachian Trail loop is a good 5.5 mile track. It is labeled as Moderate to Strenuous by the NYNJTC, but I would call it more moderate. The Three Lakes trail is well marked. The Appalachian Trail section at the northern end could use some more markers or repaint the current ones. Note that the bridge crossing the stream at John Allan Pond is out and you have a choice of using a bridge of two logs tied together or stones laid in the water. The trail offers good views and you get to see two beaver dams - and all of the stumps that they have left behind. All together - a good hike. Will return in summer for a different view.

I set out for a chilly weekday winter hike. Six miles and no sight of any people all day.
