Appalachian Trail and Long Path Loop is a 3.8 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Harriman, New York that features a lake and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking and is best used from April until October. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
What this hike lacks in distance, it makes up for in steep, rocky climbs. Since there are no major attractions, this route isn't too heavily trafficked, although the parking area is full of people during the summer months. One of the best parts of the hike is being able to walk part of The Long Path and the Appalachian Trail in the same day. This route does include a short section along a road without a shoulder. Parking at the trailhead is $10 cash only per car.
Definitely a bit challenging but we don’t hike much. Our dog got a great workout too. A lot of fun, and the end is the best bit.
Easy to follow from parking lot to peak, minimal views, but interesting scenery if extended to full loop. Continued on past peak and turned right onto Appalachian trail for half mile and had to go off trail a bit to connect to green trail back to road back to original white trail to make a nice loop.
Arrived at 11:30am and there were still a few spots at the Lake Tiotari lot. AP portion was lovely but had a hard time seeing the trail on the Long Path part. Some portions of it was well marked and others I couldn't find a blaze. Take your time, download the map and you'll be OK. Proper hiking footwear is definitely helpful for the Long Path portion as it's quite rocky.
Good trail for a short hike. like others posted a little bit of everything except for views. had an issue staying on course. very poor markings. trailblazed a fair amount to stay on the map course. not too challenging. just enough . the reviews that mention the crowds are going to the lake are accurate. visited on holiday weekend and the crowds were mostly in the lake area. big plus: bathrooms in parking lot.

Great trails across varied terrain and forests. Nothing too steep or too rocky. While there are no summits or viewpoints where you have sweeping views of the surrounding mountains, the varied forests more than compensate and there is an abundance of wildlife along the entire trail.
Good trail plenty of deer in this trail saw like 6. parts were kinda unclear and a part was not labeled but if u follow it as it is pretty obvious (but the part where u gotta cross a stream) and download the map u should be good. And u have to hike in the parking lot to the beach so u gotta pay but it was a pretty easy nice trail. Also heard there was a bear but didn’t see it oh well.
Took unmarked trail below Unmaintained Shelter to lakeside. Nice lunch spot.
11.6.19. I added a loop to this. Lovely trail, starting from the lot by the lake heading SW, then NW, and back around NE toward the lake. Some majestic woodlands on the white and green trails. My stats as a guide for this combo: Distance: 4.2 miles Elevation Gain: 630 feet Moving Time: 1:36:37
Lovely Saturday afternoon hike! Beautiful weather and an amazing trail first up to the top of the mountain, and then through the woods before coming back to the beach! 8/10 would do again, but bring bug spray!
The cold and wind made this hike really fun. Branches and trees were rubbing together, creating screeching sounds that were eerie. There was barely any wildlife, but the quiet was great. We detoured to the Lemon Squeezer and it was awesome! Can’t wait for the weather to get better and experience it in the Spring.
Not that great a hike in the summer I'd say. it's a moderately tough hike for sure, but no views as a reward. It's through the forest through and through. Winter / fall might make for a much better hike though.
