Beginning on Route 309 north of Gloversville, a bike ride to Benson and the first night at Silver Lake on the NPT! This first day begins on Route 309 at the "Blue Line", the boundary of the Adirondack Park. An easy bike ride brings you to the beginning of the Northville Placid Trail where the real work begins.

Make friends with "Hobo". Thats exactly what he is, a hobo, but he lives on the Northville Placid Trail and knows everything there is to know about it. He may look scary but, we promise, hes a genuinely nice guy. We met him at Silver Lake. Get a "support team". This is one section of the Adirondack Traverse where you're going to need some help, delivering and taking bikes, canoes, etc.
