My husband and I hiked this on Sunday 8/19 with our dog. The Winsor Trail to Spirit Lake is very well-maintained and easy to follow. Spirit Lake is smaller than nearby Lake Katherine but still nice. We didn't see anyone else going to Spirit Lake. (Most were going to Nambe Lake, and the few that weren't went to Katherine.) We didn't see anyone else after the Katherine turnoff. We did see a small herd of cattle near that junction both times. Lots of water flowing in several spots for our dog. We ended up making a loop and continuing on to Lake Katherine via the Winsor Trail to the Skyline Trail; that portion of trail from Spirit to Katherine was difficult to follow with many downed trees--just an FYI for anyone planning to hike that route.

Totally worth the hike. The first mile is rough but not too bad after that.

Tough, but so beautiful! Nice to see so much green and so much water in this state.

Hiked up from Santa Fe ski basin. Altitude, ascent and packs make this a difficult but rewarding hike. Is about 6.8 miles from ski area and 4+ hours with heavy packs. The lake area is a peaceful oasis. Hiked it in late July and experienced frequent weather change. Highly recommend it.

Great lake. Great hike. Follows the Winsor trail the entire way. Two short elevation gains, one right at the beginning and one right after the last stream. Finding a campsite 200ft from the lake can be a task.

Absolutely beautiful hike and lake! Lena's review was extremely helpful while doing the trail. The beginning of the trail is difficult but it becomes much easier as you continue on.
I'm thinking of doing this hike again because someone told me that Johnson lake and Katherine lake aren't too far away from it.
