A little icy but manageable with decent boots and maybe a pole if you’re clumsy like me. Gorgeous views and great for pups who won’t run off

Beautiful trail, flat and easy to follow straight to the rio grande. Only saw one other person, went early 8am on a Sunday morning.

this is a great trail system called the Taos Valley Overlook Trail system. The Traders Trail will take you straight out to the gorge but there are various other trails in this area. The parking lot is easy to find off of the highway with plenty of parking available. No bathrooms at trail head. The trail is about a 4 ft wide gravel path and it is exposed so be prepared for wind or sun. The view at the gorge is beautiful and from there you can head north or south on the Rift Valley Trail. As a solo hiker I felt extremely safe here and there were plenty of offshoot trails to explore. The views are great as others have stated. I also loved seeing all the beautiful quartz rock under my feet. I encountered other hikers that everyone was wearing masks and being respectful. The trails were also quite dry even the day after all of the rain and snow.

Nice trail along the rim of the gorge, down to the bottom and through the desert. There is no shade really and if you choose to go down the gorge, its pretty steep in parts and has some loose rock.

HikingGreat!No shade

Great flat hike on well marked Trader's Trail. The view of the mountains all around us the entire time was beautiful. We hiked straight for 1.8 miles and then saw beautiful views of the Rio Grande Gorge. There is a bench to sit on and take in the views. Not too many folks, just a few other hikers, trail runners, and bikers. We found a geocache nearby. We headed over to Cascabel trail (where we did not find the other geocache we were looking for) and then back to the trailhead. A great, fairly easy, hike all around.

A good short trail. Nothing too exciting. There is a bench at the end. And you get a nice view of the gorge.

Dramatic views of the Rio Grande gorge from this trail. Although it’s relatively level, the views are surprisingly good. It might be one of my favorite trails around Taos.

Easy, flat, straight trail. Popular with dog walkers! Incredible 360 views, and a nice overlook of the gorge. It was not muddy today at all.

Great flat short hike! This is in no way a moderate route. It is easy and I would be confident taking anyone on this trail. I could see in the summer that this trail would be very hot as there is no shade. But it was perfect for the 50 degree day. It was muddy and a lot of people are trying to stay out of the mud causing the trail to widen. Please stay on trail wear some boots and just scrape them off later.

Great hike in the gorge, kind of boring topside. But it is really a good one all around otherwise.

Super easy stroll through shrubby land, direct to the canyon valley, with snow-capped mountains as walk-by background. Wonderful payoff for such a lowkey stretch-your-limbs kinda mosey!
