We did a loop by staying in the canyon bottom until a point about 0.3 mi upstream from the confluence with a small tributary entering from the west, then following cairns up a break in the cliff wall on the east side of the canyon (36.83568°, -107.66354°), then heading south along a ledge above the wash to the ruin. We followed the main trail depicted on the AllTrails map back to the wellpad and road. We had four kids, ages 4, 5, and 9, and they were all able to do the hike. We did it at the end of February and there was shallow water in Simon Canyon until the confluence mentioned above. A short but beautiful, family-friendly riparian romp!

Enjoyable easy trail. Can be accessed from Cottonwood Campground which adds about 1mi to the stated 1.6mi if starting from the trailhead. Access from West side of river just past the bridge when driving through the community of Navajo Dam. 2mi down dirt road stay left to trailhead or right into Cottonwood Campground.

The trail itself, is only 1.6 miles, there and back. It was an enjoyable trail that took less than an hour total and we were taking our time. Took my 3 year old son, and he walked most of it. Loved it and would recommend. However, the trail does not start at Simon Point, it is on the wrong side of the river. Before Navajo City, the road takes a left with a 'Cottonwood Campground - 2 Miles' sign, which you're supposed to follow. Then head straight, past the cottonwood campground, and it will lead you straight to the trailhead (follow the Dirt road).

Beautiful hike, east to navigate, not strenuous. It was a bit muddy which made the trails slippery but still enjoyed the hike. Definitely going to come back in the spring and fall when there is more color.

Drove an hour to get out there to find the road blocked off. This trail is closed till mid april for “restoration”... bummer but decided to walk the san juan river trails instead and it was an absolute delight! NM has enchanted me once again

Great short adventure hike. Walk along a boulder filled shelf about a cottonwood filled canyon with live water. Very nice surprise
