I got off trail on my way out a few times navigating the switchbacks but had no troubles an the way back. Great hike for views from the valley and the along the ridges. I would recommend
This trail is a hidden gem of Carlsbad Caverns NP. I’m assuming most people don’t do trails at the NP so we had the entire trail to ourselves at 11AM. Once you get to the bottom of the canyon, you’re walking on a dry river bed and it’s quite rocky. The rock towers along the river bed are essential to staying on the trail, so always be on the lookout for them. Overall, we really enjoyed this trail and the views it had to offer.
